You got that very cheap compared to the last 2 that sold! The Kininvie was also a good price. I was having a look at some sherry stuff, but the prices seem to have moved up a bit again. Seems like anything "dark" coloured, single cask and with sherry in the name is in big demand. Tried to get some stuff in Sweden but had a lot of issues with stuff getting cancelled - the system seems to be a mess and shows a lot of stuff in stock that isn't actually there now. And the purchase in Norway didn't go through when they had the release here as my account got corrupted when they updated the system so the stuff I wanted was sold out when it got fixed, :'(
I know it's a bit more mainstream, but one of the reasons I was asking earlier for people's view on the Glemorangie Quinta Ruban, as it struck me as being a reasonable way into decent sherry/port heaven...but at sub £50 it's a bit more than my usual 25-35 supping bracket. That should just about hit your budget ;-)

I've not tried it actually. I tend not to have tasted as much of the "normal range" drinks as I am in Norway - it means the "cheap" bottles are generally around £50-60 and the more unusual ones are maybe £10 more, so I generally just go for the slightly more expensive bottles instead.Podie said:
Yeah, I did OK.
The Kininvie was £55 (less than I paid in Gatwick in the summer), the BenRiach £85 (I paid £95 from HTFW last time) and £160 (whoops) for the GLG Octave bottle.
However, £300 hammer price + VAT + Delivery + Insurance + fk knows what else, leaves you with a bill for £367. That's some markup...
I think the cheapest I have seen in duty free is around £120. Seems like it's been slowly dropping in auctions - good for drinkers, bad for flippers! I think some of the prices have "stepped up" after Brexit, since things are then cheaper for foreign buyers. After seeing a change of around 20% more for my money in the UK it certainly made me look at the UK auctions for buying stuff again. That said, I have quite a few bottles to take back so maybe best not too buy too much more or I will have unhappy family with lots of whisky (thankfully they don't like whisky so it's actually safe to store there, ).The Kininvie was £55 (less than I paid in Gatwick in the summer), the BenRiach £85 (I paid £95 from HTFW last time) and £160 (whoops) for the GLG Octave bottle.

You had tried the official Octaves release, didn't you? It would be interesting to hear how the new bottle compares, as well as to the PH ones too.

tried both the official octave bottlings.I've also had another octave bottle too (2 of them actually!)
Distilled: 2009
Bottled: 2014
Cask Type: Octave
Cask Number: SC O8
46% ABV / 70cl
I think Coneyhurst Blue and Lefty both acquired a bottle too. This was a lovely soft, heathery, and slightly salty dram. A real delicate beauty that was very typical of the Glenglassaugh style.
Flicking through the iplayer last night and found this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07zk5cx
Quite enjoyable, watched two of the three episodes.

Popped into my local wine merchants last night, they're big Gordon & MacPhail stockists. They had a sample bottle of an Inchgower (not sure exactly which one it was as they haven't had stock yet). But it was blooming lovely! Not a huge amount of nose, nice and smooth, great finish and flavours that were obvious enough for me to detect - butterscotch, honey, slight hazelnut and chocolate tastes too.
Past midday so i had a taste, wow this is nice. I'm not as experienced as some of you, but definitely getting sherry cask, oak and a hint of smoke. Would liken to to a milder and much smoother Aberlour A'bunadh.
Would say this is worrying Hibiki 12 for the top spot in my list.

Wife wanted to pop in for their new Gluten Free offerings - which we couldn't find - but managed to pick up a bottle of the 28yo, out of curiosity. Haven't bought a ''Marnoch'' for couple of years.
Last year bought the 25yo Glen Alba Sherry from Lidl and liked it so much I went back again.
For the price the 28yo is OK - but on first impression i'm wanting the sherry to win - but its the wood that is coming through more strongly. At the price you can't argue but i'll see where i go with this one. Certainly seems to like a bit of air if you can give it 20 minutes to breath. Helping the sherry overtake the wood. Smooth on the palate - bu not the finest sherry finish.
For a few quid more I'd love another 105 (ooops - think I may have one- but better finish the A'bunadh first).

I wish I had paid more attention to this thread in the past. I like my whisky and have had a couple of nice ones that I should have contributed.
I came in to the thread looking for any opinions on the Hicks & Healy Cornish Whiskey. It seems that I have been good this year and my Father has bought me a bottle for Christmas.
I did see in the middle of the 1st volume that someone had a bottle but it looks like it was a keeper rather than a drinker. I'll be opening mine
I have just bought a bottle of Lagavulin 16 for every-day consumption and will pick something special up at the airport on my way home for Xmas but I wait with eager anticipation to try the Hicks...

Bugger popped into my local Aldi and no sign of this, I assume it's only going to the larger stores :-( They also had a 1989 Cognac rude not to try that at £29.99 too
