good to hear about this, wales should produce more spirit. Pendryn is certainly distinctive, hopefully this is equally so!
They've marketed whisky under their label before but the distilling actually took place at Springbank in Campbeltown and the barrels have stayed there since with small bottling runs. This new single grain is produced on site.

Hoping it's not too harsh as it's only 4 years old, -looks very pale, but they don't tend to put out crap. Can't find any reviews to give me some insight, but maybe that's not a bad thing.

Glendronach 15 £79.95 at the whisky exchange...

Was only £49.95........but now ONLY £79.95!!! got to be a digit wrong somewhere.
£49.95 was the original sale price back when it first came out. You can't get hold of the stuff now, hence why it says current market price is £100-120.
Yup. A clever piece of marketing I thought. And then I bought. smile

Glendronach is the king of Speyside IMO. The 21 yo parliament is the best dram I've ever had, particularly the 1994 edition

I'm still not keen tbh. The wife likes it though, and has hammered through our 15yo. That said, I had to stop her from using it to cook with a couple of weeks ago yikes

well if it's their first bottling then you can claim to be in their 'founders' club' smile

I still have far too many opened bottles, but having sampled the 15 Revival and the 18 Allardice recently, I'm more than happy to get my hands on a bottle of either!

Based on recommendations in this thread, for Xmas 2015 drinking i bought
  • Benriach 16 Year Old
  • Lagavulin 16 Year Old
Then later in 2015 i bought
  • Edradour 2006 / 9 Year Old / Barolo Cask
Needless to say, they were all enjoyed and now gone, so for Xmas 2016 i've ordered
  • Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 56
  • Ardbeg Uigeadail
  • Kilchoman Machir Bay
Roll on Xmas!

Sounds like some tasty choices there! biggrin

Is it just me, or have a lot of bottles recently stepped up a bit in price in auction (due to the weak pound perhaps)? I don't have any price comparison over time, but just looking at bottles I have been interested in then a lot seem to have moved up in price recently. Particularly single cask bottles with an age.

I'm very low on Dalmore King Alexander III, and have been watching prices since it appears to have jumped to £140 this year. Dropped to £119 on Amazon today (seller 31Dover, who I've used before) in case anybody else is tempted.

Just a heads up for this bottled yesterday, sounds nice. smile

Apparently quite a few sold today already.

So in the cupboard at the moment we have; (you can probably tell we have a bit of a taste for the west coast, peaty, smokey types.)

Tobermory 10 year
Talisker 10 year
Jura Prophecy
Laphroaig quarter cask - not much left frown
Laphroaig 10 year - easy drinking a lot of this one, but fairly cheap to replace.

Laphroaig 15 year 200th anniversary - unopened, bought at the distillery last year, just before her indoors became 'with child' so hopefully open it this Christmas.

On the look out for something interesting for the father in law for Christmas, nothing too expensive, he devoured the 200th anniversary in a couple of days last year, I did help, haha

Is it a big jump from the 15? After something nice for xmas day.

Rare for me to be going beyond supermarket or duty-free single malt offers, but I've just bought this from a local shop:

It's from these people: www.damhile.co.uk

This has been a strange one. The only single grain whiskey I'd drunk before was a bottle of Haig Club and there are some similarities. I really, really wanted this to be great. Initially I was disappointed and felt overcharged. It's only been in the cask 4 years, quite pale -and on first tasting it seemed very harsh and narrow. Now though, letting it sit in the glass for a bit, warming up and opening out I can start to get some smoke and complexity. It's really interesting on the nose, and reminded me slightly of their botanical gin.

It's a bit of an oddity for me although I'm hardly an expert but I look forward to their future releases, more out of fascination at the moment than devotion to a delicious product.

Morrisons are selling Ardbeg 10 yo for £37 at the minute.

It's the first of December and i feel as though it's been months since my last Ardbeg - actually it has. I've been drinking sherried casks over the summer / autumn.

I feel like i've come home having the first glass, it's that good.

I really, really love Ardbeg...

Try the Corryvreckan if you haven't already. One of my all time favourites.

How does it rate on the 'like licking an ashtray' scale, I normally avoid Ardbegs. Talisker is about as smokey as I go....
