What did you make of the Lagavulin 12 ? I have a bottle of that release in my stash .
I have had bottles of other releases and they were huge citrus bombs.
It was nice but after quite a few whiskies earlier that evening I can'try remember the details! :DoI have had bottles of other releases and they were huge citrus bombs.
This evening was a very good one! Two bottles from the 50's.
Shouldn't ask this but I think my wife has got me bottle of something from a local wine merchants for Christmas that seem to have a lot of single malt limited bottlings by 'The Coopers Choice' by the vintage malt whisky company.
All she will say is it is 1of 360 bottles @46%. I'm sure it'll be nice but does anyone have experience of these bottlers?

Nom. Lovely stuff.
Working my way through some 12 year old stuff.
Currently got these on the go:
The Balvenie 12 Doublewood
Highland Park 12
Aberlour 12 double cask
The Macallan Gold
Glenfiddich 12
My favourite is probably the Aberlour so far - but the Highland Park is interesting & the Balvenie is very agreeable too.
Any pointers on where I should be looking next?

Just recieved a bottle of that smokey Grouse for my birthday. Away to partake so will report back.
Just finished a bottle of Provenance (Bowmore)
Delicious.
Also tried a 1975 Dallas Dhu. Unlike anything I`ve ever tasted. Was like strawberries and cream (seriously !)
edit.
Grouse smoky black. Very smooth, almost a thick velvety texture.
Gentle taste as well, obvious smoke and kind of a caramel follow.
Very agreeable

I really like Aberlour stuff, but prefer the 10 to the 12. You should try the A'bunadhNom. Lovely stuff.

I've had a few bottlings from them and some have been good whilst a Glen Grant Port Pipe from 1994 (I think) was utterly fantastic. All she will say is it is 1of 360 bottles @46%. I'm sure it'll be nice but does anyone have experience of these bottlers?

My favourite is the 15 - aside from the A'bunadh (although some batches are better than others).Worth visiting the distillery as you can "bottle your own" and the non-sherried option is bloody tasty too!

P/S yes, Ice numbs the tastebuds, not a good idea really, in any premium drink.
Edited by Hosenbugler on Saturday 17th December 15:36
No ice, just a small splash of water is what I go for with most malts, a higher proportion of water in something as intense as Lagavulin than something more delicate, but never more than 1/4 water, it's all about personal taste though, if you decide you prefer loads of ice go for it, it's your money.
On Islay they'll never ask if you want ice and at the distilleries you'll often be given a pipette to count the drops of water into a whisky...
My advice would be to try a few drinks over the course of a week, each week trying varying different amounts of water and ice and see what you get used to.
My preference, no water in anything less than cask strength or a whisky that overpowers favour with alcohol.
