Lagavulin doesn't need water! If you think that is strong, the Laphroaig qc will be an eye opener!
What about a Octomore? laugh

If you're used to it with ice then it will be intense. However it is all about what you like - but it may not be worth paying extra for more better quality stuff if you effectively remove some of the taste with ice.

it's good whisky, but what on earth is going on with the ice?

I fell for a £10 clearance offer on this in Morrisons:

It is without question the worst drink I have ever tasted. My mates and I took great pleasure in throwing it on the fire. Avoid at all costs.
Have now gone for a bottle of this, on special at about £17:

Hasn't arrived yet but hoping for better luck this time round.

One of my favourites.

After last night I'm running low so will have to sort out another bottle.

I expect you're just not into Islay malts, though will probably acquire the taste.

Try some of the sherried Speyside malts - Aberlour 10 is a great starter and can generally had for around £20 on offer.

Opened this a few nights ago. Loved the 17 and 21. Got the 30 coming from the Mrs for Christmas

Anyone else a member of the whisky club from a well know online retailer? They sent a 5cl sample of Clynelish platinum old and rare this month £240 a bottle if you can find it. Very nice with some milk chocolate

Got a few others I've not opened yet tho

Ordered the Lagavulin 16 and Highland Park 12 earlier, the Lagavulin is showing out of stock but says will be delivered when back in stock.

Get a bottle of Monkey Shoulder bought yes

FWIW, I started with ice as well. Knock it down to a single (small!) cube and that should ease you into it nicely.

Just bought this to see if it lives up to the hype... (Awarded Second Finest Whisky in the World in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2017.)

Me too.
Cool smile

Having just spanked Compass Box's Spice Tree Extravaganza, this needs to turn up pronto hehe
Have you tried it yet?
Yep. Not blown away, but it's a nice dram. Really long finish, and quite a citrus hit.

Someone has just given me an Old St Andrews Clubhouse from their cupboard - non whisky drinkers, but opened. An older bottling in a box rather than the current plastic tube.
WOW ! Trouble is - I now need to buy a current bottling to see if they have managed to maintain the quality - good sherry blend. Can show a clean pair of heals to many single malts.

Mmmm. You're not really selling it to me.

I've got too many open at the moment so won't open this one yet.

I picked up a bottle of Aldi's 28 year old Speyside and I'm intrigued to see what it's like so that'll be next to be opened.

It's a nice dram, and is on a par with its circa £100 price tag.

I suppose given the hype around Jim Murray I was expecting to be amazed by how great the whisky was going to be. It's nice, but given the price tag it's no better than I really expected.

How much was the 28 year old?

I normally take Jim Murray's comment with more than just a pinch of salt. Assuming no use of colouring in the 18yo, I'd guess from the description its not one of the sherry bombs that Glen Grant are capable of producing?
