I'm a big, big fan of Loch Fyne ever since my housemate picked up a bottle of batch 2 of their own blend last year. Popped into their shop back in August on the shores of Loch Fyne and managed to pick up another bottle of batch 2 (they had batch 4 out but wasn't so keen) along with a limited bottling of a Bunnahabhain which is delightful.SebastienClement said:
Got myself a bottle of Glendronach 12 today. Seems very easy drinking and uncomplicated... very sweet and lots of Sherry. I'm looking to experiment with less sherried whiskys... What's out there other than the smoky stuff?
I'm becoming quite partial to the hybrid types as I see them. The ones with some smokey/peaty bits but still sweet/sherried Whiskies, really liked the Bunnahabhain 12 and dare I say it Talisker 10 or Skye. In the end the only way to find out is to try them all...!Talking of sherry bombs, currently enjoying this..
Edited to add drinking Bunnahabhain 12 tonight, it's everything a very good sherried Speyside is but with another dimension, a bit of salt and peat but not heavily so, seriously if you are looking for a slight step sidewise from the usual sweet sherry dram give it a go. You'd never know it was an Islay.

Well, my wife listened this year to my non-too subtle hints at what I wanted for Christmas...
She found me a bottle of my all time favourite, the BenRiach Virgin Oak. Also the A'bunadh cask strength - something I wanted to try. I don't know what I expected with it being so high in strength, but I gave it a whirl last night and wow, it packs some intense flavours - dried fruit, spice, dark chocolate etc - a real journey for the taste buds. I tried it neat, then with a small dash of water, and I have to say I really, really liked it. At 61% I wouldn't have too much of it in one session (!), but as a late evening dram it's superb.

Going through Gatwick North at the moment and was really hoping to try either the Dalmore King Alexander III and the Midleton Very Rare at WoW. Word of warning for anyone hoping to do something similar, it seems World of Whiskies at Gatwick North has shut down!
They have both at duty free, both around £125 which seems like a good price, but was really hoping to try them as I don't really like spending three figures on a whisky I've never tried before!
Has anyone tried either? I'm still tempted to get one - I really liked the Dalmore Cigar Malt, but the King Alexander would have to be a step above again for me to justify the purchase!

Not tried the Midleton, but quite a lot of the regular posters on here recommend the King Alexander III. I enjoyed it too, but I have not tried the Cigar Malt to judge if it's worth the extra cost. They have both at duty free, both around £125 which seems like a good price, but was really hoping to try them as I don't really like spending three figures on a whisky I've never tried before!

The original cigar malt was glorious - the current one is merely "very good" IMOGassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
