I think I'll go with the Dalmore today. Reading online, apparently airport duty free over in Sri Lanka (and the Far East in general) is a good place to pick up the Midleton on the cheap and as I have a trip planned over there in the summer I'll wait till then to get it.

You could try the Master of Malts samples in the future to avoid paying lots for a whisky you might not like (although obviously the relative cost for the same amount is a lot more when buying the sample). I *may* have gone a little over the top when back in the UK at Christmas stocking up on samples! I also found a small group over here who share if they are going to open a bottle (generally expensive ones) and say they will have "x"cl of the stuff people can ask for. Most ask for around 3cl samples which the person will put in sample bottles. They then post it or pass it on when they see the person and the buyer will obviously cover the costs. It's a good way of trying bottles you might not normally be able to afford/ can justify drinking. Or just trying something different to your normal stuff that you are not sure if you will like. Almost everyone does it at cost price, but there is someone who seems to try and make money from it (i.e. adding lots extra to the cost - but surprisingly enough he doesn't get as many orders)!

The lass on the whisky stand at the duty free in Gatwick North was delightful! Her favourite whisky is also the Dalmore Cigar Malt!

Found out that WoW is re-opening, it closed yesterday!! And Wow and the duty free shops are owned by the same parent company!

First time poster, long time drinker.

I have not had the chance to post since I found 'the whisky thread' as I'm currently working in Saudi frown

However, relocating soon to a much more beverage friendly location so will have more to contribute....

I'l start with a really unusual one I opened for Christmas. Probably the most interesting tasting whisk(e)y I have had for a very long time. I could see hardcore Scotch drinkers taking offense to it, but an open mind leads me to the conclusion that this is actually a wonderfully beautiful creation.

I'm thinking of flying over for the Spirit of Speyside festival this year. Anyone been before and how did you find it?

I've never come across this before, but after searching on the internet for a bit more info, it might be my next buy especially as some of my bottles are coming to an end.

One to be opened? Having never tried Kavalan I was tempted, but again, want to try before I commit!

I got that through today too.

However, already had three bottles delivered today.

I think I'd be shot if I ordered that too.

However...

Looks good, far too pricey for my modest sipping budget though. Let us know if it's worth the premium, by my reckoning you can get three bottles of Arberlour a'bunadh or Glenfarclas 105 for that. A big ask.

I thought you might have picked one or more up, hehe

Could be worse though - you might have bought 7 of the same bottle today! Today was the every 2 months release in Norway, and there is a single cask Highland Park release. As the system got overloaded with everyone trying to get it at the same time it was logging you out all over going through the basket stage, and showing you as having nothing in the basket etc. This meant often you got your order doubled or tripled, but it wouldn't let you update the numbers. So I know a lot of people just went screw it and tried to buy anyway. Eventually I got through, only to discover later a lot of orders had gone through without showing it as complete, and so I had ordered £2000 of whisky, laugh I was able to cancel some, but the critical earliest order had 6 of the HP bottle instead of the 2 I wanted, so if I cancel that I will not get any for certain. Not actually sure if I have some, but at least it will be easy to sell them onto others if I do get all 6 (plus some other stuff but that seemed to be ok in volume ordered).

Tried an Aberfeldy 18 yo last night. Not the most complex of drams but it was worryingly easy to drink. Might be my new favourite scotch.

I love the Aberfeldy 12 and tried the 18 and 21 going through Gatwick last week. Both very smooth and fantastic drams. However, they are simple different tastes, I wouldn't say any of the three is better than the other, which makes the 12 superb value for money and the 18 and 21 probably not worth bothering with unless the flavour really gets you.

Tonight I shall mainly be supping on my latest acquisition; Bowmore Tempest 10yo small batch release No3. It's cask strength at 55.6% and really improves with 10 minutes of air and a drop of water. Not overly smokey for an Islay to my mind, all in all a great dram.
The local Wine merchants I got it from also gave me a set of Bowmore glasses too, they are a bit too wide necked for nosing though, I had to pour some into my Glencairns glass to nose it properly. On top of that they have a Whisky tasting night in March I have to put my name down for too, brilliant.
I might have bought a replacement A'bunadh whilst there too.....

I loved my bottle of No. IV. Wish I'd bought a couple in hindsight.
