Talisker distillers edition, TD-S:5SE, double matured in Amoroso casks, it's a 10 year old but not sure it offers much over the standard 10 year old offering. I like it though...

I Tried the Talisker 10 last night for the first time and I thought it was fantastic, definitely one of my favourites!

Wait till you try the 18, one of the truly great whiskies under £100 , IMHO.

Can't say I've had a bad offering from Talisker, not sure I'm up to spending £70+ on one though...

Anyone able to shed any light on this bottle? The other half was given it but we have no idea about age, quality or if it's worth keeping. Neither of us drink whisky so are unsure what to do with it?

Depends how old it is really.
This is the closest match I could find.
https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/whyte-and-ma...

Looks like it could be worth a reasonable amount if you auction it, although I doubt you will reach the heady figures Master of Malt want for it, you should see £100-£150 I'd have thought.
From what I've read the contents are only average, so it's really only valuable to collectors.

Much appreciated for the info. As for the date, I have no idea and there is nothing on the box or bottle to say. If it's only an average blend then I think auctioning it might be the best way. Any recommendations of suitable sites?

I agree, you should be able to get 2-3 really nice bottles for the money you raise selling this.
I'd recommend this site:-
https://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com

They all take a commission, so you need to be aware of that.

Let us know how you get on, and good luck.

They don't charge the 10% sellers commission at the moment (I guess trying to fight Whiskyauctioneer and their 5%). It looked to be working judging by the lack of whisky and huge amount of wine whiskyactioneer had in their last auction! So for scotchwhiskyauctions it's just the £3 a bottle to sell from memory. Then both have 10% buyers fee.

Thanks all, will give them a call and get it in their next auction. Will provide an update once sold.

Needed some daily drams, so had a bit of a splurge.

Glen Grant 10
Tried the 18yo and really enjoyed it, so decided to try it's sub-£30 sibling!

Tomintoul Tlath
Bourbon barrel aged, and I quite like a lighter dram - although I usually head to BenRiach for those, so this could be a nice change.

Benromach 2007 Hermitage Finish
Bourbon barrel aged, then off to ex-Hermitage wine casks should make for an interesting dram

For those interested, you can currently get Lagavulin Distillers Edition for £55 (was £70) in Tesco, and Talisker Distillers Malt for £42 (was £52). Nationwide - while stocks last or online.
Amazon is matching both the 2 deals above.

Some stores also have Old Putney 17 for £50 (was £70) and 21 for £80 (was £100). Not all stores stock these 2 though and therefore it's not a nationwide deal.

I have a few nice samples on the way from some friends that I am looking forward to trying (but it looks like I have to wait as they'll arrive when I am on duty for the rig so not allowed to drink, frown).

38yo Macallan (Sansibar), Glengoyne 25, Karuizawa Sherry Cask Strength Batch 4 and 18yo Glover, yum

Tried to get that Lagavulin last week when I saw the deal on offer, wasn't stocked and it's a massive Store, picked up the Talisker though, very nice 'twas too. Never seen it have the 17yo Old Pulteney either, it really is a massive store so don't understand why it's not stocked...

Just did a postcode check for my local superstore, not available....

I don't think it's the size of the store, as much as the catchment area and if they think they are likely to buy it.
I've been into plenty of their larger stores and they don't stock it, and yet some of the smaller ones it the 'rich' areas tend to have it.

Ah.. That helps explain it. It is Portsmith north harbour, their stores don't get much larger....

One thing I've wondered recently, what happens with customs charges if you return from holiday with more than your duty free allowance and declare it?

I'm guessing you're charged duty per litre of alcohol (plus VAT I'd wager), then is that it? Does the retail value of the spirit come into it at all?
