If so, the last couple of times I visited the service was shocking and the food not as good as the first visit
(last visit was about 10 months ago though)
Yep, that's the one. Oh well, I'll give it a go for lunch and see what happens. beer

Think Glasgow must be a good example as still gets good reviews online. Was the last day of my sons summer holidays so had a boys day out getting new rugby boots for school. I was with my 13 year old son with blond hair at 1.
Out of interest was it previously a Harvester or something else? Out of all the ones I have been to, those that are ex-Harvesters, have been far the worst and the others have been good to great (and yes I have been to the London places like Hawksmore, Mash, Smith and Wollensky, Goodman etc.)

I am fairly convinced so far that if they were ex-harvesters and the kitchen staff were retained that is the core of the poor food in those establishments.
That is an interesting theory, I have been to the one at Hockley Heath a few times over the years and been impressed each time, but was less impressed by the new one in Coventry, which used to be a Harvester.

Think it was an old bank as the entrance to the toilet door is an old safe. They seemed to have spent a lot of money on it as it's a massive old building with big glass dome in the roof and quite fancy inside for a chain.
See, now that might help prove my theory. It looks like the Glasgow branch is an all new restaurant and therefore not a wiff of Harvester staff in sight. The location used to be the post office and before that a series of banks but never a restaurant.

It was pretty good, I still prefer Cau in Wilmslow - I'm not really a steak guy though so i like that the steaks at Cau are a bit more exotic with Chimichurri etc. Preferred the triple cooked beef dripping chips at Hawksmoor, but overall Upstairs at the Grill was very good, great drinks menu, and not many places serve haggis fritters!
The cabbage and bacon at upstairs is to die for, currently off the menu for summer. We have tried hawksmoor and like it, but prefer upstairs, we went to CAU in liverpool and it was a shambles, had to send back the rib eye twice to get it medium. Came out blue originally.

I'm sure it was a Post Office most recently. Could've been a bank at one stage though. Personally the best Steak I've had in Glasgow has been at the Black Sheep Bistro at George Cross. Wee family run place, I'd highly recommend.

Are you referring to Keens Chophouse in NY? If so, excellent fare there fella! Had a few school reunion dinners there (for alumni of my school in SE LOndon).

My wife and I went to Gaucho Canary Wharf this weekend, I had an 800gram rib eye and she had fillet medallions along with starters and sides etc.

Not cheap at £240 for the two of us, but fantastic food and service, wouldn't hesitate to go back in future.

Anyone tried the one in Poole? Location seems to hint at a previous life? It's very close to where I will be visiting pretty regularly for the next 6 years so if its any good it could become a regular if its any good.
Everytime we've eaten there one meal has to go back. Yet other M&C's always get it right

Thank you. I *very* nearly went there on Saturday evening but ended up heading home instead.

Near miss by the sounds of it. Might trust them for a burger one lunchtime but there does seem to be a lot of better options in Bournemouth and Poole anyway.

Went to the one in Coventry (old harvester) this weekend. Wasn't great and not as good as it had been before. The meat was very average.

Been there and its pretty underwhelming. The meat is OK but nothing special, certainly not to the standard I would expect in London. The real problem is the chips that, both times I have been. have been so crunchy they are basically inedible. We had a mac and cheese side the first time and it was loaded with salt too. I have had better meals in Flat Iron.

What are the M&C burgers like?

What other steak/Burger options are good for Bournemouth & Poole?

I went before the refurb and name change. Thought I might give it another go, but maybe not now.

Visited M&C in Wheathampstead, Herts, last night. I found their quarter lettuce approach to salad a bit weird, but that aside the food was alright.

Service was average but the biggest downfall was the environment. Recently flooded, apparently, with soggy carpets and an off-putting smell. Not great when the food isn't exactly cheap.
