You could always try burning wood pellets in your normal pizza oven, you can buy a big back of "cat litter" pellets from B&M.

First fire up of the Uuni 3 last night - the burner is amazing! According to my cheap Chinese infrared gun thing the stone was just over 500 degC. Was burning pizzas in well under a minute so could well be right... Does adjusting the angle of the slide in the pellet hopper cool it down a tad?

Front door is a bit of a faff but otherwise a fantastic bit of kit, a lot of entertainment to come!

Gave my oven a "dry out" fire at the weekend, may fire it up for some pizzas this weekend, weather dependant, pics to follow if I do!

Yes, the Uuni 3 is a grat bit of kit. I'm still trying to find the optimal angle for the slide, and also find it sometimes it falls off which is a bit of a pain.

Other than brushing off the stone, does anyone ever bother cleaning their Uuni? Inside has a reasonable amount of soot buid up after a few uses.

I was also going to ask if it being black inside was normal..! I'm thinking a bit of a scrape down from time to time would be good but I have learned the hard way previously not to get pizza stones wet..!

Yes the slide fell off last night also - maybe need to bend it a tad more...

Mr Muscle oven cleaner (the really nasty spray foam one) is good at getting rid of the black crap.

I just drilled a little hole on the part that sticks out so I could put a small split-ring in there. Won't go anywhere, can articulate fully and easy to remove if I need to.

What's in pellets such that they throw off so much soot? (and I thought soot would burn off at oven temps, in any event?)

Where is the best place to buy wood pellets for a Uuni pizza oven? I see that Plumb Center sell brites for pretty cheap but are they safe for food cooking?

Food safe I believe. I got a bag last year, only had a few pizza sessions but they worked fine.

I have seen several others recommending brites from plumb centre, does seem to be the cheapest other than getting them delivered by the ton...! I can't say for certain whether they're considered safe but as long as they're 100% wood (which they ought to be as biomass fuel), I can't see any issue?

They have the ENPlus A1 rating so are fine for food use iirc.

Really fancy an Uuni. Love a pizza. Less is more I hear when doing wood fired pizzas

Out of interest has anyone cooked anything else in them? Steak for example?

No but a friend has and tells me it is sensational - have you seen that uuni supply cast iron sizzler pans for this? Of course you could use something else..

Yeah, I bought that sizzler pan, but haven't used it yet.

I cant quite reconcile putting meat in it when a pizza will burn in 2 mins. I might do something like heat up the pan on the hob so the base is nice and warm, throw the meat on, then bang it in.

Surely it's just like a tandoor? They get to around 450C.
