The American version I mean. I drink it and am getting sick and tired of people taking the piss out of me for it. I’m not a chav and am mainly a wine drinker. The main reason I drink it is because you can never get any decent wines in pubs. I know it’s not a craft beer but I find most lagers too sour and prefer the sweet taste of Budweiser (and other American beers such as Miller and Coors for that matter). I don’t like ales and find most craft beers and Belgian style beers too dark or heavy (I work in Brussels so have all sorts of Belgian beer available down my local). I’ve never much looked into the details of why American beers have this sweet taste and European beers not.

As far as strength goes it 5% so it’s not particularly weak. I know alcoholic strength is never a valid measure of the quality of any drink but, when you hear comments like piss water and ladies beer you do wonder why people say that about a 5% beer.

It seems to me there’s more snobbery about beer these days than there used to be with wine. I have friends and acquaintances that wax lyrical all night about the various merits of all sorts of obscure beers, all of which taste like ditch water to me, and then take the piss out of me for drinking Budweiser. I would like to see them doing a blind tasting a bit like the Americans did with Californian and French red wines a few years back with a bunch of French wine experts and see what comes out on top.

P.S. No I’m not an American, I'm British. Is it just me or are we seeing a new breed of craft beer fascists? smile

Brewed using rice instead of malted barley , the US version is 3.5% and utterly dreadful . Tried Blond beer ?

bud is pretty bland as are most 'lagers', and lager really being the storage process over brewing type.

My favourite beer was one brewed with champagne yeast was lovely (don't make it anymore).

You should try a beer festival there is a whole world out there over dish water.

The problem with bud and the other mass produced lagers is that they're completely interchangeable. There's next to no difference between bud or tennants/carling and so on. Except carlsberg and fosters which have a weird aftertaste that makes them pretty much undrinkeable.

If your happy don't worry what other people think about it.

There are some good Scottish light beers that are getting pretty common in tap up here, not sure about England though. Black Isle Blonde, West St Mungo lager and Innes and Gunn lager.

Different products different tastes.I think mass produced American lagers tend to be sweet to suit their huge sugar laced diet; personally I think they're revolting but each to their own. There's never been a broader choice of beers available than now, try Castleberg if you can find it from a small brewery in Yorkshire.

I'm assuming it's a reference to some sort of locally brewed ale or cider (typically from the South West).

I remember noticing that Bud' in the US has even lessflavour then the UK/Euro brew.

OP, so you like crap beer. Some people like crap cars. You're a grown man, why do you care?

I like bud, darling and carlsberg. Cheap, cheerful and I couldn't give a fk what anyone thinks. Ps, the watered down comments are sooo 10 years ago. Most people drink bud that I know of but then it might just be the type of person I hang out with. Bud at bbq. Other beer at pub. Usually fosters or carling

Not entirely true, it is brewed with malted barley, but rice is added as an 'adjunct' to replce some of the barley in the grain bill. Lots of brewers do this when producing thin lager. Corn is another adjunct that can also be used

I've been putting up with it for years and will continue to do so. However, I don't see why Budweiser should be singled out over Heineken, Becks or Carlsberg none of which seem to attract the same negative reaction.

Keeping it PH I like Italian cars and drive an Alfa Romeo and am always getting the mickey taken out of me by my BMW and Audi driving mates about their reliability even though my Alfas have been no worse than their cars on the reliability front. I guess it's the same sort of thing smile

I'm a real hophead and love Belgian beers, with a pizza or chicken wings though, only Bud out of a bottle hits the mark!

Try this it's very good - Sainsburys sell it: https://www.chapeldown.com/curious-brew-lager

My favourite beer at the moment is Hop House 13 Brewed by Guiness - very crisp and hoppy lager - a really nice drink.

Indeed, a lot of it around here.(Herefordshire) lots of wild cider that will leave you on the toilet for the following 2 days.

When I was 18 I used to love Fosters. Can't stand the stuff now, rainwater is stronger.

Lovely stuff. I was out earlier in the year and guniess sent their promo team to the pub. Free hop House 13 all night.

Classic Brit social behaviour - take the piss. I personally find it has an odd taste (wouldn't describe it as sweet, more like a peculiar nuttty/metallic tase) but then I also can't stand wifebeater which is also a big seller. Strangely enough I can drink other standard keg stuff but only ever as a one-pint thirst quencher. I prefer the beers that straddle the pale ale / craft lager style like Fullers Honeydew if I'm looking for slower flavour.
