As far as strength goes it 5% so it’s not particularly weak. I know alcoholic strength is never a valid measure of the quality of any drink but, when you hear comments like piss water and ladies beer you do wonder why people say that about a 5% beer.
Not sure that's true ... in bottles it's 4.8% and I'm convinced (but haven't looked) that on draught it's not much more than 4%.

Budweiser - rather like a diluted version of Budvar.
OP try some Tyskie. It has flavour smile
Bud and Budvar are two totally different tastes. Personally I don't like Budvar, and the more hoppy/yeasty lagers more often than not don't agree with my guts.

OP - nothing wrong with Bud'. Drink what you like the taste of. I quite like Bud. Also like Corona. Am not a fan of Peroni, Budvar, Staropramen etc. It's each to their own.

I tend to find I drink cider quite a lot now, especially in summer. And have regained the taste for IPA (Punk IPA being a current favourite) and bitters (Harvey's Sussex Best is a proper session drink smile).

Classic Brit social behaviour - take the piss. I personally find it has an odd taste (wouldn't describe it as sweet, more like a peculiar nuttty/metallic tase) but then I also can't stand wifebeater which is also a big seller. Strangely enough I can drink other standard keg stuff but only ever as a one-pint thirst quencher. I prefer the beers that straddle the pale ale / craft lager style like Fullers Honeydew if I'm looking for slower flavour.
Agreed. Whilst Bud is merely insipid, stella is repulsive. It really does have the most unusual twangy aftertaste, doesn't it?
I always used to like bottled Becks years ago. Tried a can of the stuff recently & I don't know if they changed the recipe or my tastebuds matured over the years but again.... very odd metallic aftertaste.
If I want something cold & light I tend to go for Kingfisher, Cobra or Singha. As I said, for something with a bit more hops I like Tyskie.

Bud works perfectly, out of a bottle ice cold in the States when it's 100f & you're sitting outside a bar on a deck in the sun.

On a cold wet winter evening in a British pub it's st!

When I was in Vegas a couple of years ago, Bud Light was our beer of choice, I really liked it (it was also the cheapest beer IIRC). Don't think I've ever seen it over here.

Normal Bud, on the other hand, not a fan.

I've been putting up with it for years and will continue to do so. However, I don't see why Budweiser should be singled out over Heineken, Becks or Carlsberg none of which seem to attract the same negative reaction.

Keeping it PH I like Italian cars and drive an Alfa Romeo and am always getting the mickey taken out of me by my BMW and Audi driving mates about their reliability even though my Alfas have been no worse than their cars on the reliability front. I guess it's the same sort of thing smile

Or total strangers will, on finding out you watch F1, go "but why its boring" etc etc or if youre stood by your car with a hose etc etc

Its the lager equiv of mcdonalds but hey mcdonaulds is pretty popular last time I looked. Drink what you like.

Only thing that bugs me is when you go into a bar and theyve gone to the efffort of offering several interchangable bogwater lagers on tap eg carlsberg/carling/kronenberg/fisters and not even one of the more stomachable premiums... or somewhere being supertttish about their "superb" real ale and completely missing the hypocrasy of only offering pond spec lager

You do get Bud Light in the UK, but you don't see it as often as regular Budweiser.

Personally I can't stand Budweiser. To me it tastes horrible and gives me a banging headache the next day. Bud Light was just about okay though. I find other lagers like Carlsberg, Carling or Becks more to my taste. Becks Vier on draught tastes different from the bottled Becks, but you don't see it many pubs. Tennents doesn't taste the same since they changed the recipe either.

When my mates and I go for a beer we all drink different things. Can't remember anyone being slated for what brand of beer they drink though.

I'm a beer geek. I like 'proper' beer. Bohemian Pilsner, English cask ale, Belgian Trappist beer, Bavarian Hefeweizen, American craft beer. That's my taste.

Other people may find the flavours of those beers somewhat challenging, so they prefer Fosters, Carlsberg or Budweiser. That's their taste, and they are entitled to it. I might think that these are bland drinks, produced for people who don't really like 'proper' beer, but that's just my view. A wine lover might think the same about most Pinot Grigios....

I would never mock or criticise the taste of someone who drinks Bud, though. I would be much more likely to suggest that if they like Bud, they might also enjoy something like a Munich Helles.

Or Zweic / Lech / Zubr

Polish lagers, IME, tend to be very good indeed, especially Zubr.

What happened to Stella black? That was a decent lager if served correctly. There's the problem right there, 99% of pubs don't serve a perfect (or as close as realistic) pint, certainly where lager is concerned.

Zweic is a quite good.

Budweiser is piss though. Is it 5%? You couldn't tell if you were to drink it. It's extremely bland, but then most adjunct beer is. I don't even find these beers sweet, just watery and flavourless. Even worse is tat like Fosters/Carling etc etc which are even more chav.

Not everyone is going to like real ale and that's fine but you have to expect some piss taking if you choose the mass produced rubbish over the good stuff. It's like going to a car show where there is a stand of beautifully presented exotica, but you choose to stand in the cat park looking at a base spec Golf TDi on a '58 plate.

The casual glances of disdain shot at the fool who buys a pint of Peroni over a glass of local beer are well deserved.

I only drink lager when I'm abroad. Germany does them well in my opinion.

Can't remember the last time I had a Budweiser.

I like a tin of San Miguel in a sea of craft drinkers struggling to get through their 8% hoppy dish water. I've tried them so many times and rarely enjoy the flavours offered by the craft fashionable producers such as BrewDog. There are some fantastic ales out there but it's definitely a band wagon that so many people jump on for more reasons than simply enjoying a brew.

The reason you get heckled is because you've made a choice based on your personal preference, whereas they're all doing what their friends, society or the media have told them to do. As such they're insecure about their own choices (as they are just following the crowd) and therefore try to force it on you in an attempt to justify their own position and bring you in line.
Hmmm... Because Budweiser is a completely niche, left-field choice with zero marketing budget to plaster itself all over the media, of course! hehe

Personally, I think you're right about it coming down to how it's perceived in the media though.

You get blokes who drink ales. You get blokes who drink lagers. Then you get weirdos who drink that stuff which had the cringe-inducing "Wazzzzuuupppp!!!!" adverts a few years back.

Nope, just confirms exactly what littleegg was saying. But if it makes you feel better about your choices, then that's fine.

There is nothing definitive where food and drink are concerned. Except maybe that celery is the food of the devil and should not pass human lips. Tastes are very subjective. Some people evidently like the way Bud' tastes (I'm quite happy to drink the UK sold version - it's a bit weak in the US mind) as it sells well. No real need to condescend those who do.

(Had a some Wold Gold last night for the first time. Enjoyed that too).

I don't drink at all any more, so it's nothing to me. Was just trying to help the OP understand what beer snob prejudices exist, y'know, to answer the question.

But littleegg's comment was funny. Seeing as budweiser has one of the largest advertising budgets of any beer.

This just about sums up my thoughts perfectly. Budweiser is drinkable, but it has to be really cold for me. I never buy it, purely because there is others that I prefer, but I'll drink it if I'm offered it.

Fosters/Carling/Carlsberg et al. are practically undrinkable for me. Used to love them when I was a teenager but my palate has changed. Perhaps I over did it on them hehe

Many people obviously like them, and that's fine. Others, however, are perhaps missing out because they just drink it out of habit.
