Bud works perfectly, out of a bottle ice cold in the States when it's 100f & you're sitting outside a bar on a deck in the sun.

On a cold wet winter evening in a British pub it's st!
I agree. Bud Light, against all expectations, is also drinkable when it's hot and humid as hell. Half my family come from St Louis where Anheuser Busch are based, so I misspent some of my youth getting pissed on Bud Light on the shores of the Mississippi. All very Huck Finn. It tastes of almost nothing, but it is ice cold, fizzy, feels thirst-quenching and it gets you pissed. It's not supposed to be a great gastronomic experience. It's in the same culinary category as Mr Freeze and Monster Munch.

I'm a food/drink snob and to be fair I don't mind American Beer/Larger. Budweiser has it's time and place, it's light, not too gassy and you can drink a lot of it without being bloated or getting too drunk.

It's the staple beer in the majority of bars/pubs, so if you're in a pub/bar with slim pickings I think it's best out of the bunch. Better than the Carling/Fosters crap. Plus, there is nothing worse than a hangover from being on a bit of a pub crawl and having a different beer in every establishment. Bud is a safe bet.

Out of all the american beers which floated over to the UK though, Micholob was the best; but it seems impossible to get now.

But drinking it as a choice amongst others, it's just one of those drinks for people who don't know any better.

I enjoy a nice cold Coors light sometimes, and it always seems to get comments like why am I drinking that stuff and how I must be on a diet.

Doesnt bother me though, I enjoy it and thats all that matters.

I've been putting up with it for years and will continue to do so. However, I don't see why Budweiser should be singled out over Heineken, Becks or Carlsberg none of which seem to attract the same negative reaction.
Heineken and Becks are both brewed "properly" - just water, barley, hops and yeast.
AFAIK Carlsberg also uses cereals.

That's just German beer marketing that makes you think "proper" beers can only have those ingredients. Sure, you want to avoid all the crap added to some beers to make them cheaper, but there are plenty of beers out there with added ingredients which are really, really good.

Indeed there are really good beers with other ingredients too smile
My point was Heineken and Becks are properly brewed, albeit by InBev and Heineken, and don't deserve to be grouped in with the cheaper cooking lagers.

Yes basically. I like my beers and the Mrs is a fairly active member of CAMRA, the amount of them that get snobby about what I consider to be pretty decent ales, eg Doombar, is hilarious. I think it's a bit like some people who are in to really obscure bands and think any that sell more than a few hundred albums have sold out and now rubbish biggrin

Personally I just don't really like lager, and am loving living in Holland with a plentiful supply of 12% Trappist beers at sensible prices.

If you're in Belgium then it is worth having a go with some European lagers, some have a really nice creamy texture that you just don't get with the lagers on tap in the UK, my local Brouwcafe in Holland does a really nice one, plus of course there's the original Budvar. There's also some nice 'craft' lagers in the UK now, my local Hogsback brewery now makes one called Hogstar, and a version of it with Montezuma's chocolate in which you'd probably love if you like a sweeter lager.

Then again if you like Budwieser just stick with it.

I like bottled Bud if i'm in the right mood. Othertimes I'm really not a fan.

Draught bud is fantastic if it's a good one, if its a bad one it can be horrendous.

I don't like it in cans.

I like lots of lagers.

I don't like any beers, bitters, ales or other stuff like that.

I don't mock people for drinking them though I just think, hmm they like it but I don't.

Then I return to my pint of Carling, or Peroni, or maybe Estrella or pretty much any other lager - although i'm not a fan of Becks, and Fosters would usually be my last choice. Well except for San Miguel which is horrendous.

But some real ale drinker turns his nose up at me - "oh they all taste the same, no flavour".

Which is quite frankly a load of bks.

I actually don't mind lager, or Guinness, or Real Ale, or Craft Beers. I drink what I am in the mood for, at the moment I have most been drinking, this..

If you’re not all drinking 14% Samichlaus then you’re doing it wrong biggrin

I enjoy mocking my Carlsberg/Fosters drinking mates in the same way they rib me over things they are passionate about and I’m not. It’s all done in jest. In reality, I drink a lot of good quality craft beer at home but it’s not something I’d want to do when out with friends. I’d be hammered after 4. I just pick something palatable that isn’t as strong. I’d rather down a decent Ale than lager though, maybe an Abbots or similar.

I may be a bit elitist with beers but then I know nothing about wine or whiskey. I have mates who are really knowledgeable and into their wine and whiskey who like to laugh at the crass idiot (me) drinking what is probably the equivalent of cat urine to them.

I used to drink this in my University days. Most bang for my buck as I'd always get black out drunk then wake up with a story of me doing something funny.. Stupid, but funny. Or aggressive.

Great stuff!

How anyone can drink Bud and enjoy it is beyond me. It tastes like watered down piss and is devoid of taste. I'm not a fan of lagers in general except Raid by To Øl, which is pretty tasty and My Antonio by Birra Del Borgo is lovely although that is an imperial pilsner.

Yes I know that I am a beer snob. Actually sometimes I wished that I had cheaper taste as I'd save a fortune drinking VB.

I used to like lager in my younger days but then I discovered real ale and craft beer. I love my IIPA's and imperial stouts, the stronger and hoppier the better and more complex that they are. Although I'm looking forward to having some good English ale when I'm there this weekend.

The American version I mean. I drink it and am getting sick and tired of people taking the piss out of me for it. I’m not a chav and am mainly a wine drinker. The main reason I drink it is because you can never get any decent wines in pubs. I know it’s not a craft beer but I find most lagers too sour and prefer the sweet taste of Budweiser (and other American beers such as Miller and Coors for that matter). I don’t like ales and find most craft beers and Belgian style beers too dark or heavy (I work in Brussels so have all sorts of Belgian beer available down my local). I’ve never much looked into the details of why American beers have this sweet taste and European beers not.

As far as strength goes it 5% so it’s not particularly weak. I know alcoholic strength is never a valid measure of the quality of any drink but, when you hear comments like piss water and ladies beer you do wonder why people say that about a 5% beer.

It seems to me there’s more snobbery about beer these days than there used to be with wine. I have friends and acquaintances that wax lyrical all night about the various merits of all sorts of obscure beers, all of which taste like ditch water to me, and then take the piss out of me for drinking Budweiser. I would like to see them doing a blind tasting a bit like the Americans did with Californian and French red wines a few years back with a bunch of French wine experts and see what comes out on top.

P.S. No I’m not an American, I'm British. Is it just me or are we seeing a new breed of craft beer fascists? smile
a) why do you care what people think about the beer you like and b) why does you liking it mean that other people have to like it or be silent?

I heard a story about Bud.

Apparently it's so bland, it's used as a 'base' for testing different hop combinations to make real beer.

That's a beer for the ladies on the continent.

Also, it's full of ste and will give you a raging hangover.

Still, if you like it you like it!
