I really don't like no alcohol beer but spotted some Brew Dog Nanny State in Sainsburys and thought I'd try it. If you like their beer or IPA's in general, I highly recommend it. Not much body, but all the taste. My new drink of choice when avoiding alcohol.

Anything else worth trying that's come out recently?

Sorry I just don't get non alcohol beer, there are far more refreshing drinks to have when avoiding alcohol. Maybe just me though...

Drinking a non-alc beer when amongst others drinking real beer makes you feel more of the party rather than being the lone guy on cola whos driving home.

I carry a few cans of Bavaria from Tesco for such moments. Mainly BBQ's or a picnic etc.

Works for me.

Fair enough, if that works for you in not knocking it, that's why I have the missus though biggrin

Munkholm by Rignes is my preferred non alcoholic beverage of choice.

I had Morretti Zero a couple of weeks ago and I challenge anyone to tell the difference , it was really chilled and really refreshing , in fact I would happily drink it at home if I could find where to buy it.

+1

Birra Moretti Zero. Bought by accident on a Sardinian holiday, looked the same on the shelf. Couldn't tell it from the real thing, alcohol aside.

Nanny State is surprisingly acceptable. Bavaria is ok if very well chilled.

Works for me too. I was at a works leaving do and had to drive. Unfortunately the place didn't have non alcoholic beer. Cola gets sickly after a while. Soda water and lime marginally better.

If anyone out there that thinks non alcoholic beer is a waste of time, I would be genuinely interested on what alcohol free drinks they would recommend so I maybe have options the next time I have to drive and attend a works function.

The other plus of non alc beer, is when drinking something obviously non alcoholic you usually get the same questions about why aren't you drinking, why are you driving which become tiresome after folk have had a few. Stand there with a non alcoholic beer bottle and no one bats an eyelid, because they assume you are drinking. (Or maybe I just work with a load of alcoholics!)

Bavaria is ok, and I don't mind Becks Blue either.

My Mrs loves Nanny State, I can't stand the stuff though, way too hoppy.

One of the worst hangovers I've had in my life was after and evening drinking Kaliber. None of the alcohol but all of whatever gives you a hangover it seems biggrin

As for those who can't see the point of non alcoholic beers, do you only drink been to get pissed? Some drink it because they like the taste so how much alcohol there is in it is fairly irrelevant. We're a bit st in the UK for non alcoholic soft drinks though, choice tends to be coke or ornange juice and lemonade in most places. I did some work in Kuwait a few years back and was amazed by the range of drinks available, I got a bit in to mango based mocktails. drink

Same for her, she loves IPAs and APAs while I despair that the whole UK brewing industry seems to be following the Americans in getting hoppier and hoppier. Luckily I'm currently working in Holland with a plentiful supply of high alcohol Trappist beers in the local shops and bars smile

It's a style of beer I find works well in bottles (of course it does, that's what it was invented for!). I tend to drink bitter in the pub, but I always find bottled bitters a bit disappointing. So at home, IPA/APA, stout, continental beers for me.

Crap name aside, Jever Fun is a very acceptable alcohol-free German lager. Goes well in (soon to be!) my craft beer shop/bar.

Exactly this! Bitter and nice ales in the pub. APAs, Belgians and Lagers at home. I also brew and bottle beer (all grain method) and would never bother brewing English beers because that's what the pub is for! Tend to brew APAs and Pilsners these days because they bottle well.

ETA: Love the Brewdog stuff so might have a look for this, purely out of interest rather than as an alternative to alcoholic beer!

Back it up with a Tactical Thermonuclear Penguin (32%) or Sink the Bismark (41%) if you're worried about the idea of alcohol free beer hehe Not tried the Bismark, but the Penguin is horrible.

In France I quite enjoy Buckler Malt, and in Spain they also have a dark and white alternatives which are not quite as good.

I would really prefer to be drinking wine, or decent Real Ale from the UK, but we are trying to follow the 2-alcohol free days per week that have now been recommended and this is a reasonably palatable way to do it.
