Has anyone got experience with using a gas griddle instead of a BBQ ?

For family (of 6) BBQ involving mostly sausages and burgers I don't have the time / inclination to use charcoal and my old gas BBQ is past it, with fat spitting onto the lava rock meaning we get lots of flames and consequently burnt food - I quite fancy trying a griddle - must be easier to clean too.

I'm unsure whether to get a full blown commercial stainless one or whether a little Cadac safari or similar will do the job.

If you haven't seen them already, take a look at the Weber Q series. May be a decent compromise between traditional gas bbq and griddle. I have the medium sized one and it's brilliant.

The Cadac safari may be a bit small for 6 of you.

I was going to get one for my family of 4, but was recommended the Cadac Carri Chef instead as it is larger. I got mine from Go Outdoors when there was a 15% off offer, they are present doing a 10% off offer so work put at about £150ish.

There seems to be a few add on options such as a pizza stone and paella pan, so quite versatile.

I recently borrowed one when camping and our BBQ was missing a few vital parts that I'd left behind in the garden shed. It was OK but no different from a normal griddle that you can get in any household goods supplier for £10 and stick on a gas stove (another £10).

I prefer a (charcoal) BBQ for outdoor cooking, if I want to fry something outide I'll get the gas stove out.

Get a couple of griddle plates and use the old Gas Grill.

Something like this:

I have a couple of cast aluminium ones I got from Argos years ago, still going strong .. just can't find a link to them

ETA - found them:

Don't go using common sense - I wanted a new shiny thing !

But yes I think that's probably the best idea.

You can get griddles to fit paella rings up to huge diameters. Have a look on paella world uk.

Sorry, what I meant to say was ...

Replace that knackered old gas grill with a nice new shiny one and get some griddle plates for it at the same time.

While you're at it, pick up a Hacienda-Bakerstone pizza box too.
