Not a parang but can you believe a bloody great Global knife that someone had bought (at some cost) and been foolish enough to put in a factory. Before too long someone had tried to lever open a tin with it and snapped an inch off the tip so it was destined for the bin. I scrounged it and spent a good length of time grinding it to a reasonable profile without burning it. Globals are ridiculously hard (too hard IMO, hence the breakage) so it took a while. I now use it to savage bits of undergrowth in the garden that are getting unduly enthusiastic. A parang would be a better tool, but I don't have one. I certainly wouldn't have disposed of one when there was Leylandii and hawthorn to be brutalised.
