Wow they're branching out. Here in America they're more popular than Dominoes. Could not compare the UK equivalent as I've only had US Papa John's. It's very good though.

Worth a try. In camden & finchley the branches were a cut above your typical chain pizza, local one here in enfield i find a bit meh.

Not as greasy as Pizza Hut and better quality toppings than Dominos.

Any size of pizza can be had for £11.99 if you order online and collect. An XXL with stuffed crust will feed a man for two days and it tastes better the next day when reheated in the frying pan.

The garlic dip is not a garlic and herb dip as you would get from other pizza places, it's more like a weird garlic butter.

Personally I prefer Domino's but I know plenty of people who prefer Papa John's.

I'd say pretty good, yeah - certainly a cut above Pizza Hut or Dominos. The undiscounted prices are a pisstake, but they're generous with the various deals, discounts and so on, you'd have to be really quite daft to manage to avoid qualifying for something somehow.

Some of the specials that show up in the veggie section are damn good - there was one with an absolute stton of oregano on it, laaahvely. cloud9

The special garlic sauce is weird and delicious stuff and I think it maybe has a little bit of crack in it because it should not be as nice as it is.

just had my first one tonight...

erm never again. it taste just strange, like the main ingredients have some weird coating on them (pepperoni didn't taste like it should etc), that garlic butter is bloody horrible. it didn't even smell nice. i can eat pretty much anything, but this is the first thing in a long time that has gone in the bin (i only managed half of it at a struggle)

don't usually do the whole takeaway thing but dominoes wins (even if you feel massively dehydrated the next day)

i'm now having a few stellas and lion bar to try and get rid of the horrible after taste.

For American style pizza, I'd take the PJ base and sauce (that passata is bloody lovely, always get a side portion) and dominoes toppings. Oh, and dominoes g&h dip is liquid crack.

Unfortunately, that's not an option so we alternate between the kids' preferences as neither I nor my OH can choose between them.

Indeed, the pizza/passata sauce from Papa John's is very good.

And Domino's garlic and herb sauce is very good. When they introduced the large pots it was a joyous occasion.

Nothing special and I think I'd join the ranks of those preferring Dominos if you want that sort of pizza.

The garlic "dip" is truly vile.

I've tried pizza from the local PJ and wouldn't buy from there again. Expensive and it just didn't taste great at all. My local Dominos is so much better.

I prefer Papa Johns to Dominos but I reckon I've had more pizza from my local chippy than either.

Love Papa Johns, the base and flavours are in a different league to Domino's imo.

That Garlic dip, add some barbecue sauce - oh mumma!

I can't seem to eat their bases any more without being a bit explosive the next day but I prefer them to any other chains, much nicer toppings and seems a bit less fake (too much symmetry in a dominos for me!)

The cinnapie desert pizza was amaaazing, I don't know if it's still on the menu

I'd say it is more tasty than Dominoes. Don't pay full price though. Wait fur a 2for1 offer or seek out codes from their website.

As with others, the garlic dip tastes like rotten congealed butter.

This.

Had Papa Johns a lot when I lived in the states for 4 years and it was lovely. Even had a small one in a holiday park that was alright 10 years ago but the local one by me is fking dier, I've even tried it a second time to see if the first one was dodgy one - it's not. Not a patch on Domino's! Guess it depends where you live, which is weird for a franchise.

I can't say I'm a fan of any of the chain pizzas although Papa Johns around here was (a few years ago) a little better than Domino's or Pizza Hut.

We're lucky enough to have a really good independent about a 10-15 minute drive away. They genuinely use better ingredients rather than just the slightly less awful toppings Papa Johns promote. Artichoke, biltong, and feta on your pizza? Not a problem sir. We have lots of fun combining some of their more unusual ingredients wink
