Papa Johns - any good?
Discussion
I'd say pretty good, yeah - certainly a cut above Pizza Hut or Dominos. The undiscounted prices are a pisstake, but they're generous with the various deals, discounts and so on, you'd have to be really quite daft to manage to avoid qualifying for something somehow.
Some of the specials that show up in the veggie section are damn good - there was one with an absolute stton of oregano on it, laaahvely.
The special garlic sauce is weird and delicious stuff and I think it maybe has a little bit of crack in it because it should not be as nice as it is.

just had my first one tonight...
erm never again. it taste just strange, like the main ingredients have some weird coating on them (pepperoni didn't taste like it should etc), that garlic butter is bloody horrible. it didn't even smell nice. i can eat pretty much anything, but this is the first thing in a long time that has gone in the bin (i only managed half of it at a struggle)
don't usually do the whole takeaway thing but dominoes wins (even if you feel massively dehydrated the next day)
i'm now having a few stellas and lion bar to try and get rid of the horrible after taste.

For American style pizza, I'd take the PJ base and sauce (that passata is bloody lovely, always get a side portion) and dominoes toppings. Oh, and dominoes g&h dip is liquid crack.
Unfortunately, that's not an option so we alternate between the kids' preferences as neither I nor my OH can choose between them.

I can't seem to eat their bases any more without being a bit explosive the next day but I prefer them to any other chains, much nicer toppings and seems a bit less fake (too much symmetry in a dominos for me!)
The cinnapie desert pizza was amaaazing, I don't know if it's still on the menu

Had Papa Johns a lot when I lived in the states for 4 years and it was lovely. Even had a small one in a holiday park that was alright 10 years ago but the local one by me is fking dier, I've even tried it a second time to see if the first one was dodgy one - it's not. Not a patch on Domino's! Guess it depends where you live, which is weird for a franchise.
I can't say I'm a fan of any of the chain pizzas although Papa Johns around here was (a few years ago) a little better than Domino's or Pizza Hut.
We're lucky enough to have a really good independent about a 10-15 minute drive away. They genuinely use better ingredients rather than just the slightly less awful toppings Papa Johns promote. Artichoke, biltong, and feta on your pizza? Not a problem sir. We have lots of fun combining some of their more unusual ingredients
