Ironically the place we get ours from works out cheaper than supermarket despite being vastly superior product (Cheshire Smokehouse for anyone that's local)

I bloody love bacon.

Fortunately we have this place about 60 mins round trip time away Crowe Farm. Their stuff is out of this world, their rashers barely shed any liquid or even change shape when you fry or grill them. The meat just cooks and the fat crisps to a golden brown, texture like sun... lick

Even Aldi and Lidl here do decent bacon, just always buy dry cured and the pack that only contains five or six slices, not the pack containing twenty slices of what looks like wafer thin water filled ham.

There's plenty of decent bacon available in most supermarkets.

Dry cured, thick cut bacon is the most delectable stuff. The village shop here sells it in vacuum packed bags. It has an amazing rind of fat that crisps like crackling as it cooks.

Aldi dry cure is very good, only £1.59, I prefer it to Tesco's 'Finest' stuff which is almost twice as expensive.

Tip: Something I discovered last weekend. Insert a generous slice of fresh avocado into your bacon and fried tomato sandwich. Trust me on this!

Purchased a 1/2 pig from http://www.highfarndale.co.uk/#!bacon/pg75n earlier this year. Was fantastic.

Not had their bacon but imagine it would be delicious.

Can you get dry cured lean? Everytime I see it it's streaky. I think this maybe the heart of the matter, I want lean, dry cured and cheap rolleyes

Bacon from an American's POV, seems theirs is all streaky, no lean stuff there.

reminds me of the time I bumped into our local councillor in Sainsburys, pointed to the thick cut bacon and said 'Oh, I was just thinking about you'. The thick didn't get the joke.

Some things are easy to give up on, for me bacon is one. I did stop putting butter/marge whatever, on my sandwiches once (in a vain attempt at eating slightly healthier) and haven't looked back, it was easy.
Stopping having a drink on an evening? No chance!

I put lots of flavour on my cooking as I don't think my tastebuds are very sensitive and I do like very flavoursome food. I couldn't tell one chicken from another once it's been doused in garlic, herbs and roasted.
I do wonder how many could (in a blind test) I bet a lot couldn't.

Sorry mate but you're talking crap. My missus is a brilliant cook and cooks using the local butchers chickens, which are excellent. On the occasions they have ran out and we've had to use supermarket chicken, there's a big difference. The best best thing to do would be firstly get yourself a good butcher and get proper meat from them and secondly get a better wife who will cook them properly.

Job done.

For supermarket stuff I've found the Jolly Hog smoked back to be okay (no residue), but if I'm feeling extra posh I order online from Cheshire Smokehouse. Their produce is fantastic.
