Is supermarket meat generally Halal
Discussion
Reading on line regarding the above and looking at my steak tonight I have found it labelled HMA in the top corner, which apparently is the Halal monitoring authority. Can anyone confirm if this is right or just the daily mail trying to scare us about being taken over without knowing etc
Asda say it's rubbish. http://your.asda.com/notes-and-briefings/online-ru...

For food to be halal it should be marked with a mark something like this:
But it will definitely say halal on it, in Arabic and English.
If it isn't, how are Muslims supposed to know if they're allowed to eat it?
Not really it can be halal and unmarked. The marking doesn't make it halal. But it will definitely say halal on it, in Arabic and English.
If it isn't, how are Muslims supposed to know if they're allowed to eat it?

It's all halal. You'll find that the pork/bacon etc is usually Turkey substitute.jas xjr said:
i am not a muslim. surely with halal a prayer needs to be recited , so kosher would not be suitable for a muslim
Yep - that was what I was told. Plus a friend of mine owns a takeaway in Prestwich, and has a lot of Jewish customers. He told me they told him "halal" was considered kosher. I had assumed (possibly incorrectly) that Jewish people were ok with halal because the physical process was the same, whereas kosher wasn't halal because no prayer was said during slaughter.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
