Whilst I accept its cheeky to say given I haven't entered (I will vote though) you've entered a meatball dish with shop bought meatballs? I just noticed that.
Brilliant.

Someone else mentioned that, to be honest I hadn’t thought about it. I buy prepared meat, ½ leg of lamb, loin of pork, steak etc. as im not a butcher. Take sausages, I don’t grind the mince and put them in their skins. For the lamb comp I used diced lamb, I didn’t dice it myself. You have to draw the line somewhere, I show the ingredients im not trying to hide anything, if you don’t like where I draw the line then vote for some other entry. Cotty said:

I have never cooked meatballs before so it did not occur to me to make them from scratch. I suppose if I had followed a recipe it would have said to make them but I just winged it re. cooking and ingredients
Indeed.. For example, life is too short to make your own Cauliflower Cheese, sure I am more than capable of boiling a head of Cauliflower and knocking up cheese sauce but its such a ballache compared to grabbing a bag of it from the freezer and chucking it in the oven Some short cuts are acceptable, meatballs is one also fairplay for having a go at cooking something you have never tried before. We love meatballs. I fry them off with some onions, mushrooms, red wine and garlic then throw in a jar of passata a large tablespoon of tomato puree and simmer it down for anywhere between 30 mins and an hour, simple and delicious!
Waitrose Italian meatballs are very nice with a jar of ready made tomato based sauce and some pasta. I may have made meat balls once in my life but usually when I see them on offer in a supermarket I buy a few packs and freeze them for later use.
On the competition front, it looks like Tickle has not had time to do the voting thread before heading off to work early doors, how about we leave it open for another week to give it a chance to get a few more entries?

I agree bit that's not really cooking is it? that's a quick meal when back from work and meatballs aren't exactly difficult to make for the sake of a comp. Plus depending on the ingredients you use you can make the dish taste quite different.ascayman said:

Ok I have pulled my entry as its not in the spirit of the competition.TeeRev said:

Happy to leave it open for another week, up to you guys. Selfishly it gives me a chance to do mine on Sunday now if this is the case; however, not that fair on the people who entered on time.On the competition front, it looks like Tickle has not had time to do the voting thread before heading off to work early doors, how about we leave it open for another week to give it a chance to get a few more entries?
I can put the poll up later if we want to go that way.
It may fall right for a Christmas Dinner competition if it's left a week plus voting. I understand this will be up to the 'Beef Winner' to decide though.
Tickle
Well I think Cotty should leave his entry in, meatballs are meatballs whether you make them or not and there is no rule that says you have to make everything from scratch otherwise I couldn't have used oxo cubes to make stock for my gravy.
I vote for an extra week and of course he could use that time to make some meatballs or even another dish altogether.

I agree, let Cotty's entry be allowed.
Unrelated Has anyone got suggestions how to attract more entries to cooking comps?
I guess "not picking on those who can be bothered to enter if you haven't bothered to enter yourself" would be a good start. Unrelated Has anyone got suggestions how to attract more entries to cooking comps?
For me the cooking competitions were always about doing something special and challenging yourself rather than cooking something you have every day. My dish for the lamb competition took some research time plus two days of prep and cooking. As it turned out, 3 of the other 6 competition entries weren't even plated dishes. And I came third. So I'm still flouncing about it which is why I haven't entered this one
Joking aside, I think the lack of support could simply be down to the time of year. A quick search suggests that it was this time of year when the original competitions started dying. Everyone's got their Christmas heads on at the moment, people probably don't have a lot of time to devote to a cooking comp.
