What flavour is Iron Bru?
Discussion
I was mildly disappointed (possibly the greatest understatement ever posted on PH ) when we moved to Evesham. They "make" it there and it must be different water or something, but English Irn Bru and Scottish Irn Bru are just not the same.
Scottish is like nectar, English is like rusty piss.
When I visit my Mum, there are three things guaranteed to find space in the car before the wife...
Mother's Pride Plain Bread
Square sausage
Irn Bru (preferably in a glass bottle - very rare to get hold of, but sometimes available)

AAll of you lot deriding the best fizzy pop ever clearly have never been to a decent fish and chip shop.
Some drinks, like irn bru, tizer, dandylion and burdock, and bass shandy just make more sense with a chip wrapper full of fresh cod.
Irn bru is the best of these unique drinks, and it has the added medicinal benefit of solving a hangover every time.
As for Dr pepper? I'd rather lick wasps.

Not sure what it tastes of, except girders of course - there is usually a picture of one on the bottle or tin, which is a bit of a giveaway...
It always somehow reminds me of that occasion when I was really young, and put a battery in my mouth, for whatever reason. Has that metallic twang.
The BP garage on the roundabout in Corby used to sell it in glass bottles, the ones where you get 50p back if you return them, along with that nuclear green limeade Barr's make, *Red Kola* which is fantastic, and Tizer. Amazing. I used to go for a drive there to enjoy the A6003 and get a bottle. Dont think they sell it anymore since they turned into one of those little M&S shops

As above, you can add Red Cola to that list, magnificent with some chippy chipsSome drinks, like irn bru, tizer, dandylion and burdock, and bass shandy just make more sense with a chip wrapper full of fresh cod.

Scotland is the only country in the world that Coca Cola isn't the biggest soft drinks brand I think.
Orangina - France has held that record, or still does and Kinnie in Malta.(I used to have a property in Malta)

Irn Bru tastes like cream soda (also made by barrs)
You no longer get any money back on the glass bottles.
When I was younger we used to go about finding the bottles and handing them in. It was an easy way to double or treble your pocket money in only a few hours.
Its original use and the name comes from the brew given to the ship builders something to drink. Tap water wasnt safe enough. Alcohol was not agood idea with molten metal and hammers. So carbonated purified water with sugar and caffine was the obvious choice to keep the workers alert and happy

Whilst on the subject of Barr drinks, Irn Bru still tastes amazing (and completely unique) but Tizer tastes like st these days.
Back when Tizer came in a blue can with the 'Tizer head' man on it, it was lovely. A very artificial flavour, but very good. In recent years, since it's moved to red cans and apparently had the sugar removed, it tastes fking dreadful, like some cheap supermarket citrus pop. They might as well kill it off as it's nothing like the good old stuff.

I'm with you on the bread and sausage, but I'd ditch the Bru for fruit pudding.Mother's Pride Plain Bread

I'm Scottish born and bred, but not a great fan. Of course I always have a few litres in the fridge.
Last time I was in Glasgow I laughed at three young lasses in an Italian restaurant - all ordered a nice pasta dish with 'chups' and then washed it down with Irn Bru - their taste buds must have been fekked.
The Mother Land...
