Of the three, I prefer Dominos, but frankly all three are an expensive rip-off and not stuff that should be eaten with any regularity. The ingredients, particularly the toppings, are mostly cheap processed crap.

As for local independents - good luck taking your chances on how many mouse droppings or dead rats you might find behind the scenes. Far too many of these places now getting shut down by environmental health. At which point the owner says it's actually his twin brother's, who has been out of the country for six months.

I'd rather eat at home.

We have pizza after the kids' swimming lessons on Friday.

We used to have either Tops or Village Pizza.

Then my wife asked me to make homemade pizza every other week instead to be healthier.

Roll on a couple of years, and we only buy it in once in a blue moon if I'm too busy to make the dough during the day, and the kids really complain when we do. biggrin

No takeaway pizza on earth compares to doing it yourself. cloud9

Where would be your place of choice for take away pizza then?
A bit regional, but 'It's a Pizza Thing' - a mobile truck with its own wood fired pizza oven outside the South Western Arms in St Denys, Southampton.

Husband and wife team who chef up the best pizzas bar none.

I think it really depends on he individual franchise. My nearest dominos is god awful but the one 2 miles away is superb. Never had a bad Piza Hut though so they get my vote.

Sticking to the question & not vying for your local poncey Citroen H van outside a pub, then Dominoes is by far the best.

Definitely depends on your local franchise, all the others are awful here, & two for Tuesdays is a good deal.

Strange outlook if you don't mind me saying so. I think anyone who starts and runs their own business is likely to have considerably more care for the name of the business as all they have is their reputation. Anyone working in dominos is on a poor salary and doesn't have to try for sales as all marketing is done for them. I personally wouldn't set foot in dominos as my local Italian makes sensational pizzas for take away. In fact there's some damn good pizza independents across Cardiff. Any food premesis is inspected, graded and made to advertise that grading on the front window of the restaurant/takeaway. Not sure if that's a nation wide thing or just Cardiff.

I like the Italian range. What always put me off Dominos in the past was stodgy bases. Pizza should be thin and crisp.
then order italian crust or thin and crispy.
You mean, as I posted?!

Even their 'thin and crispy' used to be stodgy and soggy. Same with Pizza Hut. Didn't have takeaway pizza for around 15 years, tried it when I was ill last year and found things had moved on significantly.

Dirty hangover pizza - dominos with extra big garlic dip, wings, and hot sauce. Not fine food but it hits that spot so well.

That's the reason I order from Papa's!

I think (but can't be certain) that the Welsh Assembly made the "out of 5" hygiene ratings compulsory, whereas the rest of the UK they are (or were) only optional - so the low rating ones obviously aren't going to advertise the fact if they can avoid it.

Papa John's - 'The Works'

Brilliant quality IMHO. Domino's just tastes horrible with to much cheese and the dough tastes of sugar. And Pizza Hut is just caked in salt.

I'm not saying Papa John's is healthy it's just the better quality version of the other two.

Domino's and Pizza Hut really should up their game IHMO

i like the junky-ness of dominos pizza. however I'm quite fond of PJs as it tastes just as good (sometimes better) the day after when reheated slow in a frying pan with a crispy/crunchy crust. i really don't care for cold pizza.

Of those 3, Dominos. Though very salty.

The garlic sauce at PJ's is the worst thing I've ever tasted. And the pizzas were comparable to Dominos.

We don't get delivery where we are so I regularly just buy pizzas from Tesco (Finest) or M&S. Some of them are really pretty good (the pepperoni based ones generally), especially if you put a bit of olive oil on the crust prior to cooking.

Cost about a quarter of a Dominos, taste better (though don't have that "I just had a hit of filth" benefit) and take no time to cook at home. OK, choice is a bit more limited. But you could augment a basic margarita with a few toppings.

I once spent a bit of time in South Africa and went to a pizza place for takeaway...stuffed crust was hotdogs themselves stuffed with cheese. The pizza was double pepperoni and cheese with olives, onions and green peppers and the thing was nearly as big as the bed in the hotel....which meant the garlic bread with cheese I ordered (also a pizza base) was superfluous (or should have been!).

I thought I was going to have a heart attack after finishing it biggrin

I'm a huge pizza lover, Pizza Hut round this way is awful, nothing like the pizza you get when you eat in. Dominos is nice but very stodgy and heavy plus often gives me right guts ache (dubbed the dominos hang over). Out of the three PJ's is the best one for me. I LOVE their garlic sauce too, the pizza from there is as close to authentic as you'll get from the three of them.

In reality nothing comes close to the pizzas I had in Italy last year which brings me on to.......

this! My mrs mate has recently started a similar thing, making proper authentic Italian pizzas in a van. > http://madeinsud.co.uk Amazing, simple food, he makes the doughs and everything else from scratch.

You know that Papa John's by default give you that garlic sauce ste?

You can do what i do and ask for it to be changed to the buffalo hot sauce which is amazing.
