WTF?

When did this become more than student/school food? It was offered as a side dish in a gastropub alongside chips or veg.

(Yes, I'm a yokel spending time in London currently...)

Bit like pulled pork it's become very popular of late with other food from over the pond. Problem is it suffers from the same issue as pulled pork that most is pretty awful and miles away from the original idea.

Goodmans used to have lobster mac 'n' cheese as a side dish. Bloody lovely.

It only became two items because of septic influence. It's macaroni cheese in our house and was a staple of my Mum's. She used to put all sorts in it. A yummy meal.

The ALDI packet one is not bad, students love it, about 40 pence.

Well that depends how it's cooked or where it's from, doesn't it?

Mine is "proper lush" to coin a phrase.

Agreed. My shoulder smoked on the weber is a long way from my friends slow cooker covered in BBQ sauce effort!

If you're London based try the Mac n Cheese with ox cheek at Berners Tavern, Served with a coute de boeuf. Amazing stuff.

I love making a Macaroni Cheese at home, one of the only meals the kids actually enjoy eating.

laugh this one always me laugh but I've yet to come across anyone buying it. There's always plenty on the shelf. Although it must sell as they've had it for some time now.

Macaroni pie is a decent twist on plain old cheese.

I need to make hot water pastry so I can make macaroni pies.

I've never really had good mac n' cheese at any restaurant, even good bbq places and the problems are always the same. Not enough cheese, not enough seasoning and then left to sit in a warming tray so the pasta goes soft and mushy. I rarely order it if I see it now.

Love making it at home though, make a big tray of it once a week.

Love making at home. Specifically with Fish fingers and peas so I can feel like I'm 6 again laugh

Miller and Carter steakhouses also do a really good one with lobster in to have as a side with a steak.

When did the trend of calling it 'Mac n Cheese' start? What's wrong with calling it by it's proper name? It always has and always will be macaroni cheese to me.

Marketing.

Friend of mine ordered it recently assuming he was getting a burger(!) Was most surprised when a plate of student slop turned up laugh
