What is the benefit of the screens? Less staff employed? Anything else?

How do you request that the food is cooked to order? Or pay cash?

adding extra onions or whatever just dilutes the "will it be a good one or a st one?" Lottery. OK custom guarantees fresh burger, but it also increases the chance of cold chips.
You can take stuff off you can’t add it

It’s all cooked to order and you can pay cash only at the till. The idea of the touch screen is efficiency to miss out the till and to save money by not having to do something as 1990s as take cash

It's fine if you are waiting for a meal in a restaurant

Waiting 14 mins at Donalds is a joke.
he could ask for a refund and go elsewhere, i mean no one forced him to wait.

He should go to Alton towers 2.5 hours for a ride, 1 hour to buy tickets, 45 minutes to order food, all after paying to get in.
Not really a viable alternative to McDonald's. Odd suggestion!

Viable alternative to a fast food chain, another fastfood chain? Nothing odd at all.

What a joke .after ordering the food myself on the new big touch screen thingy i waited for 14 minutes , which i had to chase , for an order of 13 quid earlier. Only go there once a month as a little treat for the kids. Shambles.
Poor management right there.
Sadly the kids dont much like gbk , yet...
Say it arrived after 5 minutes, what had you planned to do with the 9 minutes you had saved?
I had my elderly dad with me and my 2 kids. Place was packed with everyone waiting in that argos way . So just wanted to collect asap.
I think the old way of 1 person taking and completing the order was better. 1 person owning a little process!
Price is creeping up in there as well . For a family of 5 mcd is just under a score .nandos, which is a cut above imo, i can do for only another 7 or 8 quid....

Don't like the new ordering system and won't go into a McDonalds anymore. The idea that it is fast food is a joke as their new policy is to produce to order so nothing is off the shelf except fries which are usually cold by the time you get them. Still using Burger King but for how much longer..........
The screens work well for me, as a van driver who doesn't have a loo in his van. 1) Place order, take ticket. 2) Find where they've hidden the loo, complete the main business of the visit. 3) Return to front counter to find staff shouting my number in an anxious manner. 4) Take food, a week's supply of paper napkins, and leave.

Cost a lot more than maccys to eat in 5guys!!
Not a huge fan of McDonald’s but I think I prefer it to 5guys. Don’t see the attraction especially at approx £14 for burger and chips!!
I was doing some work in one and got one for free, was so glad I didn’t pay for it when I ate it!!

What bothers me about the touch screen thing is you can't add extra sauce or bits like extra onions/gherkins. So i have to do it at the normal counter.
Agreed it would be good to be able to add stuff as well as take it away. I like the new ordering system. Rather that than be served something sat around for ages. All they need to do now is improve the fries for the signature range rather than just put them in a black box
The only gripe I have with the signature range is the st cheese they put in the burgers. Horrible. Give me the cheap runny cheese back.
Other than that its good!

Five guys is also bloody lovely. Expensive though. End up leaving barely able to walk with their huge portions of chips laugh

What you are missing is that it isn't about getting things done quicker, it's saving on labour thus increasing profit.
The food still has to be cooked/prepared and I agree 14 mins is crap.

I think with the OP talking about the kids not being into GBK etc that they may be quite young and therefore wouldn't like Five guys / Wetherspoons or anywhere else similar.

McDo is obvs trying to shift some labour on to the customer and technologise its restaurants. Wants to save money and stay hip and modern.

But, as above, it doesn't really work yet. It just creates ordering chaos as people crowd round the delivery bay and wait ages for it to arrive.

You can add things at my local McDonald’s. must be a different system.
