Not mine but anyone fancy batter and chips

I think that was advertised and ordered - I guess - as a small meal.

It's small, what's wrong with it?
if ordering fish, I'd you know..... expect some. a mass of batter is not fish

Maybe it's battered prawn and chips.

Every now and then my colleague and I (that’s the size of our team) go into the office in Leeds to prove that we exist. When we arrive we dump our laptops and bugger off to The Matthew Broderick on Minelleum Square for breakfast and our “software developers conference” which lasts til about 7pm. We always do this on a Thursday as it’s curry club. It’s bargain-tastic, the breakfasts and curries are great. The lunch curry is top value if you have a pint of Leffe as your included drink.

We did try having our “conference” in a variety of other “conference venues” around Leeds centre but after being in Spoons you notice how expensive it is - basically double. The other thing is that I’ve always found the beer in Spoons to be top notch.

Can’t beat the place, though the descent to the bogs in the bowels of the earth gets a bit tedious after a few pints.

Met a mate for breakfast yesterday. I'm watching the calories at the moment so had the Momo porridge at £2.09. He had the traditional breakfast on offer at £2.95. Refill tea and coffee and £1.56 each. What's not to like (apart from the plates).

It's been a long time since I have been to a spoons, but I still remember the breakfast I had in one years ago. It was awful.

I often think the reason places get away with serving ste food, is what people are used to eating at home, it boggles the mind

Regardless of price, anyone who thinks it's a decent meal is utterly wrong

I’d have sent that fish and chips back, regardless of where I’d got it or what it cost.

I’ve always had good food in a spoons and found the staff to be very nice too.

Not in a pub or cafe, for £2.95, in the last 2 decades, no.

2 slices of bacon, sausage, egg, hash brown, toast and butter, cooked and brought to your table for sub £3. Where should I be going?

As we’ve established, if cheapness is your only measure of success then Spoons is hard to beat. But given humans have eyes and tastebuds almost any greasy spoon I’ve ever been would turn out something better looking and more substantial than that. Not sure what they cost but probably £8-10?

Most products you can buy will have alternatives that are far better, for 3 times the price.

Depends if you think the cheap product is fit for purpose. That meal and that ste up the page is not worth any amount of money IMO.

I'm quite content with the standard of a spoons breakfast. Most of their stuff is reasonable value.. It's not great, but it's usually better than the average cafe and also cheaper.

Well I don’t particularly for things that are just flat out cheaper for the same product. A pint of beer is a good example. Can’t really argue with that. Yeh atmosphere is missing, and all the other things I don’t like about the ones I’ve been in, but the pint of beer is substantially less than the same thing elsewhere.

However for me it doesn’t extend to the food, those meals look awful. They aren’t competing with anyone with stuff like that as nowhere else I’ve been would serve that.

Yep, they are very good value for beer and other drinks, but the food looks bad enough that it would be worth just putting the money towards something more civilised elsewhere.
