Aldi have PX in, €6.99 in Eire, 6.29GBP. See picture below,

.
I just picked a couple up. Usually around a tenner for this size PX elsewhere.

I love Laphroaig PX cask, but it costs a small fortune, so I do very bad things with this stuff, a couple of drops in a cheap Aldi/Lidl Islay getmecoat

Great idea for flashing up a moderate tipple, I bought the five bottles that they had so will be enjoying a few PX driven cocktails over the period.

Have any of the Guv’nor/19 Crimesers tried Buckfast?

A similar profile and both ‘quaffable’ and ‘easy drinking’.

Aldi have their Christmas Amarone offer back - 2020 this year with an alc content of 15%. It's likely to be a bit young at this stage but might be good to lay down.

It's £15.99 so I'll wait as usual until it drops to £10 after Christmas and then buy a few - still got 8 left from last year and it's imrpoved quite a bit with laying down.

The Aldi Amarone mentioned has now dropped to £11.99 a bottle so time to stock upsmile

Update on this - cracked a sample bottle last night and....disappointing!

Somewhat lacking in depth and complexity, fresh fresh and fruity - probably too young at 2020. May improve with keeping but I won't be stocking up after all.

Last years was (and still is) much, much better - that one was a 2018.

Quite disappointed really and TBH most of the Castelorre labelled wines I've had from Aldi have promised much but failed to deliver.

I labeled this "Unicorn Wine" because I can rarely find it. It's not listed on the Aldi UK site scrolling through all the reds and a search draws a blank too. I can't find it in store, either in the wine area or hiding elsewhere, so it's living up to my moniker.

It resides in the wooden shelf bit (reserved for the 'posh wines')...plenty of stock in the 3 stores in Carlisle, possibly a regional thing?

It's a 2020 under 'Castelorre' label - 15% this year....was 14.5% last year which is a little thin for Amarone but it was still excellent and has improved since with laying down.

I reckon it's regional. I checked the bins and scoured every aisle, all the hiding places and so on at Ashbourne and Belper. Stuffs all over the place atm to accommodate the Christmas stock.

Although I don't think I'll bother as the boggo Castelorre Primitivo Puglia is excellent at almost half the price, the Animus Douro is bloody good and there's also a California old vines Zinfandel too at near half the price of the elusive Unicorn Ribena.

I would persist if I were you and look wider - Amarone at only £12 a bottle is a rare treat even though it's not going to be up there with a £40-£60 bottle. I've a Bertani in my wine rack which last time I checked was £120 a bottle but I bet it's not 10 x better.

I've tried the Primitivo Puglia, it's okay for the price but nothing special - decent paring with pizza, but in no way is it comparable to the latest Amarone offering which is in a different league regardless of the cheap price.

Ribena? - a California Zinfandel fits the bill every time if that's your bagsmile

Lidl Valpolicella Ripasso is a belter, and more or less a stock item.

£11.99 or so but you could pay a lot more for the same quality.

So it’s you who buys all the good wine from Belper. The shelves are always empty of the good stuff when I nip in smile

Just bougt 6 bottles of Mouton Cadet from Tesco, with various discounts it brought an £11 bottle down to £4.20!

Yes, I’m going back for more!

You’ll need employee discount to get it that cheap but £5.25 is still less than half price without one!

Fair enough. 5.25 is still a good deal though

Have just ordered a bottle of Guv’nor to try! Barossa Ink takes some beating tbh and I’m not a huge Shiraz fan. Delta Estate Pinot Noir is £9.99 atm (Hennings) and I usually have a few bottles put away (I still can’t decided whether the upmarket version, Hatters Hill is worth it - £22.50 currently).

So far my favourite at this price point, picked up 2 of these for Christmas (as part of the buy 6 get 25% discount)
