Yes very funny. I thought that was vegans, though? I've given it up for medical reasons as my digestive system can't cope with it and I've had to have some minor surgery to correct some damage in my intestines, and been directed to eat as high a fibre diet as possible to prevent a recurrence. I do miss it, though. I might start introducing small amounts of wild game like venison occasionally, see how it goes. I think I have some internal weakness which can't cope with the undigested meat which remains in the system, and I'm a bit intolerant to some of the bacteria that comes through the mechanised food production system which leads to persistent stomach complaints. I've been feeling a lot better since I changed my diet.

But yeah, it's just a performance for attention.
Blimey, GBY, have look at rabbit & female pheasant to balance the venison if you can re introduce.. thumbup

They are 3 of my favourite things so perhaps I'm biased.. lol..

I still do. I make a sweet turkey curry with leftovers every Boxing Day, always has raisins and chopped apple in it. Before I gave up meat I looked forward to it more than the Christmas dinner itself, I still make it for everyone else in the family.
How do you tell someone is a vegetarian? You don’t need to they will tell you in the first 2 minutes.

Did you ever have a tick bite? There's a recognised meat allergy which can result from these.

Something I discovered recently.

If you end up with an excess of chips, which is easy done when ordering for a family, put them in the fridge.

They will look and feel manky pretty quick but ten minutes in the air fryer brings them back to life, even better than the first time around!

Not the cheapest ever at £9.85 for a haddock and chips, but absolutely beautiful. We'll worth a stop if you're on the NC500.

Thanks, yeah, the thought of bunny wunny did cross my mind the other day. Would be a great sub for chicken, which seems to be the thing which triggers much of my discomfort.

I don't think I ever have, but that's interesting, so thanks.

Large haddock, chips, bread/butter (swapped out the mushy peas for an extra slice), drink - £11.75. Worth every penny.

The bread looks awful and the plate is too small.

Yes but it should never be cut in half. Should be folded to stop the curry sauce dripping down your arms yes

I was just reading that.

Slightly confused tbh as people seem to be complaining that eating optional things in a restaurant costs money.

twas ever thus.

await the walter mittys about 280 quid fish chips from a fictional steins establishment...

edit its trip advisor sourced...is the bbc running low on news or the intern could only find the mail and express to rip off for stories.

as i posted a thread once, tripadvisor is the most pointless thing in the world of food.

Yep.

What's awful about it?

Not artisan enough? Just sprinkle some bird mix on it and pretend.

£8.99 at one place.

I arrived in the UK after six months abroad two Saturdays ago and took the car for the MOT.

I was near the city centre so went there to kill some time and stopped by an established chippy in the market as I hadn't had fish and chips in over a year and nothing else took my fancy.

Lo and behold prices had gone up.

£8.99 was the price for the standard portion size, which was actually on the generous side.

There was another offering also for £8.99 and it was their 'light' version. Apparently less than 400 calories! Yet I'm pretty sure they were frying in dripping.

It was effectively a meal deal: a smaller sized portion but with a chip shop side and a drink.

I went for that with mushy peas and a can of Lilt and I have to say that although I was initially a bit dubious and thought they might dish only enough to fit in a matchbox, it was still a generous size, cheaper than a non-chip shop restaurant dishing it up, and importantly it actually 'hit the spot' without crossing that sickly "I've over-eaten" fish and chip threshold you get with an ordinary portion size that ends up being a chore to finish.

Still, not too long ago a standard portion was about £6 so this at £8.99 was a clever trade-off. I'd actually recommend it even as someone who always looks at portion size (but who then wonders why despite regularly going to the gym they never seem to lose much weight).

Look up the definition of a la carte wink The article mentions 'frozen chips' and by the look of them I'd not be surprised.

i had to look that up as never actually knew what it meant...by the correct definition all chip shops, takeaways fast food is a la carte...

the inference of a la carte suggests something a tad fancier, so not sure what your reference in this context means as in what chip shops are "table d'hôte" (thanks wiki!).

and again there not frozen chips, RS f&c are a lot of things but they do their own chips...

Tried a different f&c shop recently as our regular place the owners had gone back to Greece for August

£14:15 for a whale sized piece of fish, sold as cod, large white flakes, lovely crispy batter, top notch. No reason to doubt from taste it was anything other than cod.
A generous portion of chips, perhaps might have preferred them to be fried a little more but certainly ok.
Large battered sausage for the heathen in the family.
Portion onion rings, good size, light crispy batter, not at all greasy, which is usually the case from the chippy that the locals usually offer as the best around. (We find them generally greasy and expensive)

That lot fed 3 of us, with a few chips nicked by a 4th person, and some leftover fish and chips.

Those leftovers reheated today in air fryer fed two of us for an excellent 'light' lunch.

Think we might be changing our allegiance, pity the parking and traffic is a total nightmare.
