Sorry, as usual a bit late to the party.

I tried one of those some time back, the most disappointing thing I have ever experienced, except for everything else I have experienced. It just about did what it said on the tin.

I would not recommend it to anyone.

There was a bloke - not on here - who did food videos, he tested Fray Bentos and found it wanting. If only I could find a link.

Edit.

Seek and ye shall find. I like his vids, he did a supermarket price comparison thing as well, v interesting.

Lol, it just looks so bland and meh, I don't think I would even be able to dish something like that up!

I will defend Fray Bentos steak and kidney to the death and beyond hehe

I've watched that video (and many others) before - So you say "he found it wanting" confused but he says...."it's actually a very fine pie filling" ..... "very tasty meaty gravy"...."actually not a bad product..... "it tastes very good" rofl His only gripe was "it's not a family size pie!

Further more Baxters bought out the brand in 2013 from the Princes Group and there was a period when they bought out a "new improved recipe" which was dire to say the least. Now Baxters have actually owned up, apologised and sorted out this glitch. As can be evidenced on their tins..........

And to add: his only gripe was it's not 'family size' well my my earliest memory of said deliciousness (about 55 years ago when I was 10) all five of us sat at the table Dad me my brother and sister would have a quarter of pie each with boiled potatoes and Leo Peas (the ones that had to be soaked overnight in string bag) or a tin of baked beans and of course bread and butter. It took me years to realise why Mum didn't have any pie - God bless her cry

So there tongue out

This is a flagrant breach of the trade descriptions act; 'forever' defies the 3rd law of thermodynamics and thumbs its nose at the inevitable heat death of the universe.

These were a staple in my house (70s) as well.

There was a point when these were absolutely delicious - really meaty - and then the scandal broke they had horse meat in them.

Think that was actually Findus Lasagnes that had the horse meat.
Not really sure what the problem with it was because horse is delicious.

Well, quite.

However I am referring back to tinned FB pies from about 1976, so probably not verifiable via Google.

Trust me, it was a Thing.

Was always more of a Pukka man myself, although now you can get a Pieminster Moo from Tesco, it appears the game has changed somewhat.

Surely they should be eaten with tinned potatoes and marrow fat peas for the whole 70s experience hehe I’m tempted to try but don’t want to be disappointed like when I tried brains faggots last year for the first time in probably 30 years
Fray Bentos Steak & Kidney maybe a guilty pleasure, Brains Faggots are a crime against humanity! Tried some 'home made' faggots at a pub lunch with a customer years ago and was blown away! Meaty, Savoury Goodness! lick
Bought some Brains Faggots to try during my next visit to Sainsburys! My God they're disgusting! Sloppy, tasteless mush! yuck Straight in the bin! They should be sued under Trades Descriptions or something!
