Love a Braeburn apple me. Usually get them from Tesco but the inconsistency is maddening, even from the same batch. One apple is best apple ever, crisp and incredibly juicy. The next, dry, spongey and powdery, straight in the bin. And that's the big loose ones. The ones that come six to a pack are generally more consistent but are the size of plums.

Tried using the local market but they were even worse. Good tip about the asian fellas, i like to go and get a watermelon from a big asian shop in the city in summer. About half a metre in diameter, tasty and juicy, for about a tenner.

Try Waitrose.
That's ste as well. Quality of fresh produce has taken a nosedive in the last 12 months.

We get all the ste produce.

French supermarkets are like an organic farm in comparison to ours.
I thought that for years, every time we went abroad the fresh food tasted amazing. We started shopping in Waitrose just before lockdown, went to France last year and weren't amazed by anything*, in fact we thought the meat wasn't quite as good.

As pointed out above, it's all seasonal. Fresh fruit isn't so good at the moment, kinda obvious!

  • ETA: except the campsite breads, they were utterly lush. E.Leclerc's were like cardboard in comparison.

I find the packed ones ok for size and quality tbh. I keep them in the fridge, very refreshing.

I think that although most fruit and veg is around all year, some are not worth bothering with out of season eg peaches.

I usually finish off lunch with a banana an easy-peeler orange. Bananas are much of a muchness but recently easy-peelers from whatever source (supermarket or farm shop) are horrible tasting balls of nastiness that go off in no time.

Yes all fruit is absolute rubbish these days

I agree that some Asian supermarkets do have much better quality fruit - they must use different suppliers - for example peaches in Tesco are rock solid and ripen at home whereas last time I went to the local Asian supermarket they had really juicy peaches exactly how they should be.

I'd much rather than juicy fruit in season for a limited part of the year than crap all round.

I'm just back from a holiday in the middle east and the difference is noticeable.
