No one has mentioned St Austell HSB, my all time fav when home in Cornwall.

Also:

London Pride
Wychwood Hobgoblin
Bishops Finger
Exmoor Gold

For the 'cooking beer' when nothing else is available I don't mind a pint of Courage Directors

Not a lot of mention of Hall of Woodhouse in Blandford,
the home of Badger Beers - First Gold, Badger Beer, Tanglefoot etc.
Tremendous beers

If you are into Real Ale and Classics and Sportscars - try our village beer festival
this year. Sunday is the family day and car rally. Saturday is live music.

Taylors Lanlord or Ram Tam (Landlord with caramel in the brew).
Anything from the Brown Cow brewery at Barlow near Selby.
Anything from Eastwood and Saunders, Wentworth Brewery and most other Yorkshire independant breweries.
All this typing is thirsty work, is it 5 o'clock yet?

Forgot Hawkshead bitter.

Great stuff brewed in Britol, i used to work for them and its lovely beer.

I was Warehouse/ Transport manager for Smiles, but left in 2003 as I couldn't see a future there. The beer was good, but the management was top heavy and the brewery site was a nightmare. For those who are not familiar with the Colston Yard site, it is slap bang in the middle of Bristol city centre, in a very old 4 story building, across the road from the Hospital. The only vehicular accsess was a very tight lane which snaked to the rear of the building. Beer was brewed and casked on this site, but the only comercial vehicles capable of getting down the lane were small Mitsubishi Canter flatbeds rated at 7.5 tons. These were fitted with a cage type body and one was designated as a shuttle vehicle, constantly loading full casks at the brewery, and delivering them to our warehouse just off of junction 19 at Portbury. This is where all the distribution was done from. Empty casks returned from customers were taken from the warehouse to the brewery by the shuttle truck. There was a proposal put forward to lease the unit next to the warehouse at Portbury, move the brewery to this unit and produce and distribute from the same site, the Colston Yard site could have been redeveloped as a heritage attraction, making a small amount of beer to supply the brewery tap and running brewery tours and brewing courses, but management seemed to like the Dickensien feel of the Colston Yard site, so the idea never got of the ground. I enjoyed my time at Smiles, but I'm glad I left when I did. as what happened next was this......

Umm, I had a conversation with someone a few months back that said they went into administration in 2005 and the brewery near the Colston hall is closed. The "Smiles" beers are now brewed in Walsall.

They also changed all the names of the beers quite a few years ago - Brewery became Blond and Exhibition became Heritage. The Highbury Vaults is no longer a Smiles pub, quite shocking to think that - the first pint of beer I had in Bristol on the day I moved down here in 1988 was there.

Nowadays I like a pint of Butcombe or Bath SPA. One that I haven't had for a long time but always try when I see is H&O Old Navigation - no idea if that is still brewed.

The vast majority of bottled British real ales are awful (in my experience).

Spent a pleasant evening in my local chatting to the owners of the brewery of The Three Tuns, Bishops Castle last week. Rewarded our efforts in promoting (and drinking) their beer with pints and an open invitation to tour the brewery including a promise of free samples...mmm

There are tens, possibly even hundreds of great British ales, but Timothy Taylor's is the best.

When I was a lad, Tetley's was fantastic, but it is very poor these days.
