Off to a beer festival Friday, hearing this on the radio got me thinking, I assumed it was referring to natural sugars, didn't realise sugar is added in the brewing process.

A lot! We add 7lbs to 40 pints when brewing. It does turn to alcohol though...so I'm fine with it!

Sugar generally isn't added during the brewing process. The vast majority of the sugar used to generate alcohol is maltose from the barley used, the barley also contains some dextrin too. Most of maltose is fermented out, so much so that in an average pint of lager or ale there will be about 6 grams of sugar in solution, mainly dextrin which the yeast struggles to respire.

fking Daily Fail not fact checking as per usual.

That’s more like how I imagined it, not someone with bags of Tate & Lyle pouring it in the barrel.

You might add a small amount in the home-brewing bottling process to get the yeast going and give it some fizz. Well, we did anyway.

Sweet Chariot (recommended).

Malty taste and went down very well on a Saturday afternoon.

I can struggle to remember ales sometimes (due to my memory, not the quantity consumed!), but I distinctly recall Sweet Chariot: Lovely pint.

Just been watching food & drink, Kate Goodman did a piece about craft ales from a bar that had a HUGE selection of beers on tap and bottled, any one know what/where it is?

Beer Emporium in Bristol.

Good to see her giving Thornbridge and Red Willow a shout - they're 2 of my favourite breweries at the moment.

Not sure which particular one she was talking about but depending on where you are in the UK, my favourite beery bars that have massive beer selections:

North Bar- Leeds
Sheffield Tap- Sheffield
York Tap- York
House Of Trembling Madness- York
Bottle Shop Canterbury
Beers Of Europe- Norwich
The Grain Barge- Bristol
The Fat Cat- Norwich
Beermerchants (online)
Brewdog Bar- Edinburgh, Glasgow, Camden, Shoreditch, Shepherd's Bush
Craft- Islington, Farringdon, Brixton
Euston Tap- Euston
The Union- Greenwich
Pelt Trader- Monument
Holborn Whippet- Holborn

There are loads more, those are the ones off the top of my head.

Beer festivals, in this weather. (Ok today was nice!). Looking forward to a few this year, got a dog so it's fair game now!

Weekends are all about taking him out rather than doing stuff ourselves. The misuses car is the dog car too, she can drive.
