Another vote for Deuchars IPA. Great session beer, and for a Scottish beer, surprisingly hoppy.
Timmy Taylors Landlord - nice.
Innis and Gunn - nice for a sup, too malty for a session.
Bishop's Finger - mmm. You never know where that finger has been
In fact, is there any such thing as a bad beer? (Other than fizzy yellow stuff of varying quality).

Agree that Innis & Gunn is a bit too flavoursome for sustained drinking. Lovely to have one at the start of an evening though.
Spitfire is my favourite I think, with Badger Champion and Golden Glory close behind. Arran Blonde and Sunset are nice, and you can't really go wrong with Bishop's Finger aka Nun's Delight. In fact, most of the Shepherd Neame stuff is eminently palatable

Umm, I had a conversation with someone a few months back that said they went into administration in 2005 and the brewery near the Colston hall is closed. The "Smiles" beers are now brewed in Walsall.
They also changed all the names of the beers quite a few years ago - Brewery became Blond and Exhibition became Heritage. The Highbury Vaults is no longer a Smiles pub, quite shocking to think that - the first pint of beer I had in Bristol on the day I moved down here in 1988 was there.
Nowadays I like a pint of Butcombe or Bath SPA. One that I haven't had for a long time but always try when I see is H&O Old Navigation - no idea if that is still brewed.

Pass the pump old chum
Might I be able to persuade you to put some of your finest into a sample container for when I see you at Harewood?? I would love to sample your home brew before I make my own

Certainly Jim'lad - normally take HB beer n wine from the cellar along to the meets since we camp over. So let me know which events your going to be going to and i'll get some bottles for ya. you'll probly find me at the burger van during the lunch break... or out on the track somewhere (last year i was either down at the Clarks, Thompson or at Country)
I'll support maxym's St. Peter's choice and add two more from the guest lists at my local
Springhead's Roaring Meg, really smooth but more a summery brew and
Cain's Raisin, just the thing on a cold Saturday - roll on 5 o'clock tomorrow!!!
Hope the Highbury Vaults is still maintaining its standards, I have been an irregular there since 1976. Whenever I am in Brizzle I try to stop for one (or two or...)
First occasion I drank Old Peculier was there, went an a pub crawl with some mates in summer '76. The only crawling we did was back home after quite a few pints of OP. Next day I staggered into work and even my boss was impressed that I had made it, and he was a Scot who knew how to hold his ale.

BTW, does anyone know of a light ale called "son of a bitch". I had it in a very rural pub which held a beer and pumpkin festival near Swanage during an A-level Geography fieldtrip. It was perhaps the nicest beer I've ever had, thought somewhat potent at about 8% iirc. I've tried a couple of times since to track it/the brewers down online, but with no joy.
Cheers
A while since I've seen "Son of a Bitch"; it is very good, and was (or still is?) brewed by Bullmastiff Brewery (14 Bessemer Close, Cardiff CF11 8DL) and was a 6.5% IIRC.
My current favourites include Sharp's Doom Bar from Cornwall and the ever-reialble Adnams Bitter.

Good call with the Doom Bar, that's my regular tipple down here at uni Thanks of the information about "Son of a bitch", I'll write to Bullmastiff and see if they supply anywhere down this way.

Doesnt surprise me, i was a relief manager for them for a year or so and eventually bought a pub off them in Bradford On Avon, 3 years later they bought it back off me for 3 times as much. Of course i'd done a lot to the pub in that time and it was worth it, 3 months later they'd undone 3 years work and essentially killed it !!
