There are some good real ale pubs around me, but they tend to be out into the villages a bit. 'Spoons is by far the cheapest as well as serving consistently good ale, although there are two or three others that I try to frequent, well, frequently!
And the 50p off CAMRA vouchers are a bonus.

I preferred Fortyniner personally (put away far too much of it when I lived in Southampton) but they're both pretty good.

After a few more pints it will look just fine to him.

Wen't to the trade day yesterday, was a really good day and met loads of people and had some good beers.
Even got to have a chat with Paul Wells which was nice!

Was disappointed there were no Alt beers on today. I made a special effort to hunt out the German bar, only to be told that they had neither draft or bottled available.

Had an excellent day at York Beer Festival on Saturday.

One of the best days on the calendar.

Righty Ho chaps,

Say I'm planning on going to the pub with a good friend of mine. She's a real ale person and had expressed interest in finding and going for a drink in somewhere that serves proper stuff. This I'm certainly up for, as long as they serve real cider as well because I'm not that big an ale fan. Oh, and obviously it needs to be an ok place as well, not a dive.
Anywhere within walking distance of the Liverpool Uni campus that fits the bill? I've had a look on the PH good pub guide wiki and nothing has immediately jumped out at me.

thanks in advance!

Plenty to choose from.
Towards town you have Philharmonic, Ye Cracke, Grapes, Roscoe Head, Dispensary and the Swan, plus the Fly already mentioned. Other direction Peter Kavanagh's was always my favourite, and for 1 year my local.
Spoilt for choice in the city centre.....

Get yourself CAMRA's Good Beer Guide app for a phone, will tell you where's nearby, and you can check whether they have cider too!
