How are you getting on with your selection? (I must admit, at first glance, I thought you'd gone and bought a bunch of full sized bottles!)I've just finished off my Highland Park 12 Yr Old. Rather a pleasant whisky.
I have noticed something interesting. As I don't drink any other alcohol, people have been startled by the fact that I want to try whisky. I don't want to drink it to get sozzled, I'm interested in the flavours and texture. I even got asked what my mixer will be .
I guess it's a sign of the times that some people think drink is just to get drunk.
Having never really tried a whiskey, but always like to try new things, more of a reds or real ale guy. I however couldn't resist this today and the chance to try something to sip through the summer.
I'm really not up on whats a good whiskey, but got this set for a nice price so will report back.

Picked up the Glengoyne from Waitrose yesterday using my Christmas John Lewis vouchers and noticed a really reduced selection of single malts. They had a spirits book out last year with lots of whisky listed but now the selection is just a fraction of what was in the book. Odd.

I really enjoyed the glen last night. And today went a bit crazy and picked up a millennium bells, I liked the bottle and some miniatures at the boot sale, and this jura in waitrose, as said they seem to have a sale on. £21 for the Jura which seems very good?
Edit: the bells was full, but after reading that's it's mostly crap, I opened it and am watching James Bond drinking a Bells and ginger beer!
Which year have you gone for? I love the 12 year old, and have a 15 year old waiting to be open. Heard the 18 year old is fantastic, so want to try that at some point too,
I quite liked it - I had the 12, 15, 17 and 18 year olds at the distillary. Ended up going for the 18 year old. As said, they're generally pretty easy drams. I think the 12 year old was a bit sharper a taste (I'm no expert and have a bad memory on top) than the 18 year old, hence going for it.

Might pick up a bottle of Glengoyne 12 year old tomorrow, as I noticed it was new in Waitrose. Anybody know anything about it?
Only ever had the 17, which was on offer in Duty Free. Quite a soft, easy drinking dram - a bit like Tomintoul is.Lefty said:
Urgh, not feeling the best this morning.
It was a variety of single-cask GlenDronachs, they're pretty much all superb!

Not had a single cask variant yet, will add it to "the list"
Gave the Griff a warm-up on the Welsh roads this weekend, in preparation for the Scottish tour later in the year
Opened the Auchentoshan on Saturday night. Wow! That stuff has a kick.
Drank some of the bottle with varying amounts of water. I accidentally put too much in at one point which made it taste odd.
I managed to get a taste of wood, bitter treacle and something that my fiancee says is like cherry brandy. The nose seemed to develop about 12 hours after opening and has become quite nice. I seem to notice the cooked fruit on the nose now.
Anyway, cracking on with it and learning a lot about the stuff as I drink it.
