And the above post shows you why you shouldn't make your mouth go.

Just got an e-mail from Ardbeg apologising for the frustrating time on Saturday and to contact them - following which they have reserved stock for me and will be giving free delivery as way of an apology.

All i can say is that this is superb customer relations and in this day and age, it's nice that companies are willing to take the time to respond to feedback and not merely say "sorry, we're sold out"

Think i might buy a bottle of Corryvreckan to celebrate!!!!

In shock news, popular things used to sell out even before the internet existed. Subsequently and publicly complaining about the company/website/website hosting company/industry/government and then kicking the cat... Well it's not really cool. Brings to mind images of screaming mum-zillas spitting with rage and red faced when they couldn't buy cabbage patch kid dolls for their spoilt kids' Xmas presents in 1983 or whenever that was. Let's just calm down and leave the retail fury to the womenfolk during the sales shall we lads? smile

Perhaps there is an element of this but in your example, the mum-zillas were fighting over something they couldn't get to. In my situation, the analogy would be that i had the two bottles in my shopping trolley and was standing at the till trying to pay for it and on many occasions i couldn't pay due to a problem with the cash register and on some occasions, the cashier put the bottles back in the trolley and sent me to the back of the queue!

Then to make matters worse, someone took the bottles from my trolley and managed to pay and get the bottles!!

Yeah, perhaps you are right...

Incidentally, kicking the cat? Nothing to do with this situation, i just really don't like cats! smile

The shopping trolley analogy doesn't work so much with the internet, because otherwise the first guy could just come in and order the whole release in one transaction and that would be that. The stock is only allocated once the payment is processed and until that point anyone can take it out from under you. Also if there was sufficient demand to sell out the release very quickly, Ardbeg having a more scalable ecommerce site wouldn't necessarily have landed you any whisky, if anything it would have sold out quicker.

Perhaps - although the first buyer couldn't buy the lot as it was limited to two bottles each. Also, Ardbeg have admitted that they had upgraded the system but it just wasn't prepared for the demand.

Anyway, all i can say really is that i'm looking forward to receiving the bottles and i'm thankful that the customer service has been, in my opinion, excellent.

Do you mean like whiskybroker? http://www.whiskybroker.co.uk/

Or the actual distilleries themselves?

Most distilleries will sell you a cask if you ask nicely.

Really? I thought demand was so strong that this had been widely stopped. Or is that the big, international concerns?

Kicking myself for not getting a cask of Laddie...

Arran is an interesting type too. I'd liken it to the brewdog of whisky, in that the traditionalists can FO. Distillery had only been around for 20 years or so.

Couple of things that I don't like about that - The very large charges to obtain your angels share each year and the fact that the barrel may not be stored on Arran. So relatively pointless going to visit Arran and your barrel when it may (and probably would) be on the mainland.

I think Glengoyne do something similar - I remember them mentioning about the possibility to buy a cask when we were having the tour. That was a little while ago though.

I got this a few weeks ago. Perhaps more of a "cheaper" investment one. I know some people don't like that, but my thinking is it helps spread the risk for investing. And the benefit of doing it for whisky is if it doesn't work out then it's good for drinking yourself anyway, biggrin
