Oops....
We stopped off just to grab a bottle from the shop!
Visits start tomorrow at Aberlour, meeting up with Lefty on Wednesday to check out the PH casks and then Balvenie on Friday.
With a distillery around every corner you are taking it easy - but you have picked some good tours. Aberlour is excellent - Balvenie was very special for me as I was the only one on the tour and abnormal things happened We stopped off just to grab a bottle from the shop!

When you are at Balvenie try and squeeze in the Cooperage down the road, although you should also see Glenfiddichs own cooperage.
And as you are meeting Lefty call down the road at Glendronach, possibly for a quick tour, but at least to get a bottle from the Managers Cask.
Did Aberlour's "Casks from the Past" which is rare whisky tasting.
Resulted I a few purchases...
Picked up 2 of the Limited edition Bicentenary (of the village, not the distillery) - it's like A'bundah on steroids. Also got a "distillery fill" bourbon cask. Popping in tomorrow to get some sherry fill as they'd run out

It was all organised by Lefty. Basically he organised the purchase and share of the casks.
A lot depends if the distilleries will allow it now.
Approximately how many bottles did you get each? Looks like you're having a lot of (expensive!) fun!A lot depends if the distilleries will allow it now.
These just arrived today. The Lagavulin is the 1996 edition.
Just to be clear - so that there is no mistake or confusion I would be up for another cask !
Maybe a different distillery ?
What says you Lefty ?
Podie - your trip looks fantastic, I second 'clasicmercs' if you get a chance pop into Glendronach - my personal favroite and an amazing whisky.

Glendronach is one of my favourites - would that be an option for a cask if people want to do one again?Podie said:
They do, but I'm over 500 miles away from those details....
True - it had more been a general number (i.e. if it's a lot then might be more difficult since I'm not in the UK).Podie said:
First two week holiday since 2007...
Whisky and petrol are about the same at the moment in terms of expenditure!
The way I have looked at it in the past is that I'm helping keep the country running - nurses paid, pensioners paid, layabouts furnished with new branded trainers, booze and fags etc.
Well, today, after many years I finally met Lefty. What a thoroughly decent gent he is.
Had a tour of Glenglassaugh, and met Mhairi McDonald - and sampled some of her (outstanding) work.
Not the prettiest distillery, but honest, open and very, very friendly.
We also sought out the PH casks and had a small sample of them. Sadly, many of them are not ready yet - but they really are going to be fabulous when they are - lots of potential already evident, and some of the, I'd buy now.
Sad news is they no longer do octaves.
More details and a few photos when I sober up...

So as our week in Speyside comes to an end, I'm looking at our souvenirs...
Would highly recommend a Balvenie tour (they have their own Cooperage so saves a trip to the Speyside one), and a trip to Glenglassaugh (especially if you have a share in an octave there). Popped into Glenfiddich to buy a bottle your own, but it's too commercial for a tour IMO.
Aberlour was fab too, but we did the "Casks from the Past" rather than a distillery tour. Overall we got to see a lot, and with Glenglassaugh being on shutdown and with Lefty's connection got an even better tour.
A fab week, some amazing whisky, great souvenirs and nice to finally meet Lefty after all these years!

Did you try any glenglassaugh? Assume so? What did you think?
Nearly picked up a nice old bottle on my way through duty free but relented on account of already having one other bottle in my case already...
