I like the duty free Bowmore Enigma which I still have half a bottle of. Think I'm going to go for the Tempest next. smile

Little trip to CostCo.

From left to right (inc. VAT): £20, £18, £29. (Bacardi was £16).

Funnily enough was at Costco myself last night. I ended buying this for £34.

They had a JW tasting table on the go. The only palatable one I tried was the Double Black. All the others (even Blue - which I had elsewhere!) have that horrible JW tang to them. I don't know what it is, but I'm not the only one who doesn't like it. When my Father was given a dram of Blue in a very expensive whisky bar he almost spat it back out. His hosts were equally impressed and upset that he could identify it as a JW, and that he found it unpalatable!

Quick question. I had a Bowmore the other night for the first time in ages, and I'd forgotten how much I like that distillery. Gentler peat than an Ardbeg or Laphroig and a lovely richness, much like a Lagavulin.
Which are the most interesting expressions of Bowmore these days?
Give Tempest a go. I can only speak of the 3rd batch, but I found it bloody delicious. I managed to hoover up 3 bottles for my stash but would have bought a dozen had I been able to find them at the release price of £50 or so.

Perhaps sounds a little overboard, but I reckon Tempest 3rd batch, is to me, very possibly the best whisky I've found in near 10 years. All a personal perspective of course .

I,ve also been mulling over this: http://www.whiskyshop.com/Shop/Bowmore-Laimrig-Now...

If its half as good as Tempest it has to be a good buy, has anyone tried it?

Had a wee nip of a Springbank 10 last night and oh my Lordy Lord, it was delicious.

Heartily recommend it as a sweet and light after work dram.

Rather nice find today, but don't think I bring myself to drink it, rather good to look at.

Pulled the trigger today , on this:

https://www.whiskyshop.com/bowmore-laimrig-15-year...

Bowmore certainly seem in the ascendency , from what I can gather, like the Tempest, this is another real beaut. A good cask strength 15 yr old whisky delivered to the door for £65 has to be pretty reasonable.

Also went for this:

http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-15234.aspx

This remains the only Irish Whiskey that I have tried that passes my "buy it again test" . It really is cracking stuff, and exhibits much character, very , very different from anything else I have tried. People speak of a pot still "signature" so perhaps thats it. For those not partial to Islay ashtrays and who err toward speysiders, etc, I'd say its a must try. Cracking stuff.

This ended the spend:

IMHO, one of the very best, if not THE best of the readily available malts. Wonderful stuff, an oft repeat buy for me, although the price seems to be kicking harder and harder upwards, sadly.

Likely to be a while before this particular bottles get opened, but good to have ready in the stash. Having said that , for a few reasons, its highly possible they will be the last bottles I shall buy in the UK, although never say never. biggrin

I've got a bottle of this on the go at the moment and it's very good. Almost 'accidentally' added to to our weekly online shop earlier because that looks a great price.

I've had it about a year and a half now, I've just always had something else in there to refocus my attention. However, I've finished my last "other" bottle - a lagavulin 16, so it may need to be opened now.

Anyone pop down to the whisky show yesterday or going today? Relativly newbie to whisky, but was great to sample all the different whiskys. That ardborg supernova wow could smell the peat across the room. Think the laporig select was probably my favourite.

I usually prefer the peaty whiskys so was trying to get away from it and try something different, Balvenie port wood 21 and the carrabien cask were nice.

Struggling to remember some of the others hah, amatuer mistake not writing them down as I was going along.

Paying the price for all that whisky drinking this morning.

Hi there,

OK its been around for a month or two now in a few selected places so has anyone tried the new Haig Club Single Grain Whisky ?

https://www.haigclub.com/en-row/home

We've just had our first couple of cases arrive into stock so it should start to find its way out to some of the bars we supply across Manchester and the North West in the next week or two.

Its a bit of a strange one but I quite like it. It does seem to be dividing opinion though

http://t.co/c8PDs0qS1L

Any thoughts ?

Regards

Tim
