Hopefully no-one will buy it for me at Xmas!
Which reminds me, I've put in requests to my small amount of relations for these for Christmas rather than the usual socks, pants and what have you:

I'm 48hrs away from my trip with the Brother in Law up to Speyside and getting a little exited!bounce

Flying up to Aberdeen and then driving to Craigellachie on Speyside, staying at the famous Highlander Whisky Inn. Hoping to have a distillery tour on Saturday afternoon at either Abelour, Balvenie, Glen Grant, Macallan or Benromach and then a nice evening session tasting a few interesting bottles back at the Highlanders Whisky Bar.

I'm an Islay fan but still enjoy a interesting Speyside so hoping to buy a couple of bottles to add to the collection.

If you want to do Balvenie, you need phone ahead and book - the tour is 35 quid but a lot longer and more in depth than most distillery tours. Plus you can bottle your own Balvenie in the warehouse smile

Balvenie finish early on a Friday (AM tours only - becuase the Cooperage closes) and weren't doing weekend tours last time I checked. Good tour though, and worth joining Warehouse 24 before you go.

In fact, try and book ASAP - tours get booked up quickly, and if it rains you have zero chance. In August we saw it time and time again. People get turned away as they haven't pre-booked.

I'd also recommend Aberlour's "casks from the past" - not a tour, but a tutored tasting and it's excellent.

I guess its a bit like Patron then - tequila for people who don't like the taste of tequila!
I've heard it said that sherried whisky isn't real whisky, or non-peated whisky is less worthy than peated whisky, but I think drinks evolve and change with the times.
You hav'nt tried this then !
I am a fan of sherried whisky, especially Glengoyne - no peat at all and pure sherry casks, yum yum !! I do not agree with those I've quoted above smile

Another vote for Aberlour if the Balvenie isn't running. Again - you really must book ahead.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll try a couple of the distilleries and see what we can sort at short notice.

My current (wee) Whisky collection.

Having just phoned around, it looks as though Glen Grant is our only option so far.frown Aberlour, Balvenie and Macallan are now closed on weekends for the winter months.

Can anyone suggest any other Speyside distilleries worth visiting?

Glendronach? IMO, the best sherried whiskies you can find.

Oooh, interesting link. Been wondering what to get next and am now sorely tempted by the 15yr old Revival.

Interesting, isn't it?

Shockingly, I've never tried one. I've got so much in at the moment, I just can't justify a spend!

Never tried the 15yo but since discovering the Single cask range I am smitten. Currently have two bottles of the 21yo and 2 of the 19yo. I have only tried the 19 and it is soooooooooooo good. The only problem is it costs another 100€ on top of the 15.

Two bottles of Chapter 16 coming my way - one cask strength and one 46%. The cask bottles seem to have sold out in about 15 minutes. Less than 400 bottles in total - if you want some get on their website asap. Peated sherry.

Cannot show pics sadly (my place is currently a building site) but as this past week featured my birhtday , I am now in possesion of:

Lagavulin 12 (2012 release)

Lagavulin 12 (2013 release)

Bowmore Tempest 3rd batch

These will be off to the stash, to compliment (lagavulins) and increase my holdings (Bowmore)

Which takes me to myreal point. How many, and what bottles are in your stash? I know one particualr stash held by a forumite is biblical in size, but would be interested to hear what people do hold, and perhaps why?

Somebody please, do fire away biggrin

I'm not going to list them as I need to do another recount when I visit my parents in the new year but about 150 bottles give of take. About 80% are forming part of my retirement!
