How long is a cask going to take to mature at that latitude? And where is the water coming from? Desalination?http://www.whiskysaga.com/myken-distillery-arctic-...

Anyone have any opinions on the latest Aldi whisky, seen 18 & 24 instore, and some bourbon finished no age single malts? Hints of where they come from etc? The 24yr old is £49.99
I've opened and tried both the 18 and the 24, didn't like the 24 at all to start with but it's grown on me a little after a few more evenings and trying it more. Feel much the same about the latest 18 year old, both had a kind of 'mouthwash' taste about them. I'd give the 18 a go and see what you think.Nowhere near as nice as the purple label 18 year old 'Glen Marnoch' bought earlier in the year which I still have and is gorgeous. I've read that this variant is re-packaged Dalmore, although nobody is totally sure.
the problem i have with Aldi is not the quality as such, it's more the people who buy things from Aldi saying "it's from Aldi this you know! Aldi! Who'd have thought? It's good too, i mean really good not just acceptable. Aldi eh! You should you go. Why the fk do you go to Tesco, you dick? Aldi! This is from Aldi!" I'm glad you haven't done that here, but I'd imagine it is indeed cheaply priced.

Anyway bit of a tangent but I've had a lot of disappointment in the 20+ year old bracket when it comes to whisky. I am honestly yet to find something in that bracket that justifies the price tag. I've not had a huge amount though, as they tend not to be on offer at tastings etc.

Thanks for the review. I too had a bottle of the 18yr purple bottle from earlier this year and it was as you say truly wonderful. Think I will put my money in a 12yr old yamazaki instead. Last weeks purchases - Kilchoman Coull Point, and Aureum 1865 (German 5yr old).
The Kilchoman was a revelation when I tasted it at Gatwick before I got on a flight. It's a vatting of fairly young casks, that taste more like a 10yr old - definitely an Islay malt by it's peatiness, but very well rounded and very drinkable. I'm looking forward to older bottlings from this distillery..
The Aureum really was in it's shadow, no real nose to it but nice enough - one to revisit in a week or so.

Never had this before but Yoichi 10 Year Old is going to be on amazons lightning deal at 10pm tonight. Standard price is £56.99, no idea what the deal price will be.

I've never tried it but it has decent reviews on masters of malt.

I've had that and gave it away. The nose is a bit strange, it smells mouldy rather than woody which is what I think they were trying for. This carries on into the first part of the taste. After that it's not unpleasant but I'd never buy it again and didn't enjoy it.http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00384CVE8/ref=...

Some decent black friday offers here at edencroft, if you sign up through my reward link you will get £15 off first order! A bottle of Glenmorangie 12 Year Old Quinta Ruban is on sale at £35 so could be £20!

Had a couple of things turn up today.
Kildalton x4
Laphroaig 1991 (Germany only release)
MM 46 for 50€ from WhiskyAuction.de
If anyone wants a bottle of Kildalton then they are still available from kildalton.de (150€ a pop) but needs to be delivered to a German address.
I'll be happy to receive a couple of bottles and bring them back to the UK when I come back in January. Just PM me.
