I'm half way through mine and wasn't immediately happy with it. Compared to most other whiskies I've bought (Spayside, sherried) it tasted quite bland and weak but over a period of a few weeks, making sure I hadn't coloured my palette with stronger flavours, I began to appreciate it and it's probably one of the most balanced whiskies I have. There are lots of different tastes in there but not one that overpowers the rest, it's quite remarkable and definitely a great whisky. It's delicate and subtle but it's all there. I paid £125 for it so £99 is a real bargain. I'll get myself another at that price smile
My local place has dropped the price from £120 to £100, so I guess I'll have to go in on the way home and get a bottle!

What else would you recommend for a spayside sherried whisky? I currently have glenfarclas 21.

Glendronach is always mentioned on here - fantastic value and a bit of a sherry bomb.

Glengoyne 25 is my favourite (absolutely exceptional !) but it's pricey at £245 a bottle, the 21 year old is similar but not quite so good - this is about £110 a bottle. I also like The Macallan too, even the £65 10 year old sherried oak (91 score from Jim Murray) is very nice. The no age Ruby is also well worth trying but I have an issue paying for a whisky with no age rating after the distilleries have spent the last 50 years telling us that age matters !

The Glendronachs tend, in my experience, to be richer in flavour, more toffee and orange, sometimes a bit too much with a bit of leather/oak. The Revival 15 is a full flavoured whisky (award winner) but if you particularly like the Glenfarclas 25 then you might find this too much, it's certainly got more flavour than any of the others I've mentioned.

The revival 15 is only £46 at my local whisky merchant, might have to pick up a bottle of that too!

Revival is lovely, but Coneyhurst Blue pointed me at a single cask 11yo - for a fiver more it blows the 15 out of the water!

Going to treat myself this christmas and buy a bottle of this.

Going for £99.89 at drinksupermarket. A bloody bargain if you ask me!
Hi there,

Luckily I am in the trade therefore a bottle of this will cost me under £75 inc VAT. biggrin

Interesting to hear peoples thoughts on it before I grab a bottle though.

Regards

Tim

any ideas on where the cheapest place to pick up a bottle of lagavoulin is?

is it worth buying on line or seeking some out at the super market

if you're a member of Costco, I picked up a bottle of Lagavulin 16 for £40 (incl VAT). Not sure if it's cheaper elsewhere now though, as there may be offers on.

CostCo. Last time I was in there it was around £34. Going there tomorrow if anyone wants one!

After the debacle of smashing my bottle of Jura, the postman brought this today. Nothing extraordinary, but it's a decent dram in my experience.

oops, no, I think it's gone down in price (unless the £35 was without VAT), as I bought mine 4-5 months ago. even better though, for people buying now thumbup

£35 with VAT smile

I am taking a trip to Costco later today (Glasgow one) so will have a look and let you know how much it is now!

I just have to resist the temptation to buy another bottle... hehe

True enough , historically,(past 5/6 years at least) it was difficult to source Lagavulin 16 at under £40 , I don't beleive I ever saw it on promo at any of the supers. Not from what I can recall, anyhow.

Its my dram of choice, I currently have 6 bottles in the stash. I had a stroke of luck, the Sainsbury's branch in Stamford, decided to stop selling it, so put their stock on clearance at £30 a go. I had the lot (8 bottles). An old price list I found only recently from a whisky shop had it listed at £25 in 1999 , so quite a result on that one.

Don't happen enough, unfortunately.
