girlfriend picked up an aberlour abundah batch 50, is it worth keeping this, do the batches become more valuable in time or should I crack on? Drinking the 12 year old at the moment smile

The early ones are worth a bit, but it's part of the core range. Open it and enjoy.

Thought this thread would appreciate this.

While you're drinking whisky - it's healthier for you.

Also part of that increase for the early bottles is the question marks about how the quality has changed over time, so Batch 50 may well be a smaller increase depending on the quality. Still, looking forward to mine arriving.

I some how have 3 bottles of Glenmorangie Traditional 100 proof, which is an excellent tipple. Two opened and one brand new. Amazong is selling it for £202.49 a bottle now (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Glenmorangie-Traditional-100-Proof-litre/dp/B002EPDHWM) , so a good little investment, but if someone wants to make me an offer I'd be tempted to let it go, as there's only a certain amount of whisky a man can drink :-)
Sadly for you Amazon is complete nonsense in regards to the price a lot of the time for the older whiskies. You need to check auction prices to get the real value, which seems to be around £70 to £100 for your bottle. Highland Park 18 is one of the best whiskys I have ever tried, it is seriously nice stuff.

Macallan 18 is lovely too, had a bottle of that with my Dad over the summer.
Plenty of lovely 18's around for ure, the Yamazaki 18 is wonderful too, and I like my Highland Park too. Just thinking it needs to be an outgoing malt, or something limited release.

Manged to get myself a Bowmore Devil's Cask ll yesterday.

One of the best drams I've had, a real fruity taste with a mighty punch at the end. I think I may have to open this one.

I was thinking about it, but I got it for £390 and yesterday the first one sold at auction went for around £900... that's a lot of very good whisky I could put the profit towards instead, even accounting for the selling costs. Same goes for the "Ichiro's Malt The Joker" ones that are on the way, should have 2 bottles coming (although may be 1) which I got for £210 each. However they now seem to sell for around £900, so again not sure I can justify drinking them rather than selling and buying a lot of other things to taste instead.

Where abouts are you buying the Japanese whisky from? I have been looking for ages for a good source.

Vinmonopolet in Norway. It's the government non-profit monopoly for alcohol here in Norway. They release stuff every 2 months at a fixed price. They're expensive for the "lower" end stuff (approximately £150 or less) but if anything goes into speculation elsewhere you tend to get it cheaper because of the fixed price they offer it for. Plus since it's only the one company you tend to have a lot of stock - with the Ardbeg Auriverdes they had over 70 bottles available, so it's a bit easier to get in the rush when things become available (only 5 million people here and Cognac is bigger than whisky here). That said, the obvious speculator stuff goes within minutes anyway.

I don't think you can buy from Vinmonopolet without a Norwegian address though, as they can't guarantee the age of the person buying it internationally. Also in many ways it's a bit random what they get for each release. I think there tends to be better Japanese stuff in the January release. Here is what they released this year in January. Divide NOK price by 10 to get approximate £ prices.

For the regular posters who are known/ know a friend then it shouldn't be a problem. I'd prefer not to send hundreds of pounds of whisky to a one time poster, wink I've meet you or Podie a long time ago if I remember right. That said, getting some of them may be an issue since I think they apply the Norwegian fairness if mass buying of bottles which are in heavy demand. That's why I'm not 100% sure if I have two bottles of The Joker or not. So if I'm after something it will depend on how many I can get in regards to sending any extras to the UK, wink

Next release is around 1st or 8th of March. I can update this thread with what they will have available then if people want to check for things, it should be a few days before. The Swedish do a similar thing (Systembolaget), and since it's a 2 hour drive I can get it delivered to a shop on the other side of the border and collect it there (although that technically means I can only take 1 bottle due to the customs).

Been at both, but the drinks have been in Aberdeen rather than the Edinburgh ones. It might have been the Oban trip back in 2008?
