About to pull the trigger on this:

https://shop.glenfiddich.com/rare-vintage/glenfidd...

I'm guessing that 'from source' is going to be the best price, but if anyone else has any suggestions it would be appreciated. It's not for me and my knowledge on such things is fairly rubbish.

You have to be joshing, £22k for a drink?

On a more serious point, it appears that the bottle is being offered retail, meaning you are paying "their" price.

Therefore its open to question that this portal is the likely cheapest source. It could be worth doing a little research and seeking out if any bottles like this have been at auction.

The last ones I saw weren't from the old & rare series and went for £13,750.

If I was spending that sort of money, I'd look at the Balvenie offerings or Dalmore - both appear to be more impressivley packaged and probably a better investment.

I have a contact who's very well known within the Whisky industry.

Would you like his details?

Makes the 2 bottles I got today seem like a few pennies worth, biggrin Still, happy I managed to get the second one.

I've become totally intoxicated with the whisky world today. Mr Trophey kindly shared the details of a great contact and we're well on our way to our first purchase. It was for investment, counter to my previous expectations. Now I want to start drinking some of this stuff (cheap stuff, I know my place!).

You made it into the Cringe thread in the Lounge if it helps, wink

I would say it's probably best to build up a bit of experience first if you're going for investment whisky rather than throwing that amount of money on something straight away. There tends to be some "rules" you need to follow, and it also depends a lot on your timescale for selling things as to if/ how much profit can be made.

However it's great to see someone getting into it!

I hope you're joking! Why? For asking advice from people who know about whisky whilst acknowledging a) it's not for me, b) I know sweet FA about the subject - so thought I'd ask a bunch of people who are obviously passionate about the stuff. What a joke PH is becoming.

At the risk of making the cringeworthy thread for two consecutive days rolleyes I'd be interested to know as well.

Hopefully they've advised you on how to keep whisky - as you don't store it in the same manner as wine.

Off to Comrie, near Crieff in the Highlands in a couple of weeks.

Other than Aberfeldy (worst. tour. ever.) and Famous Grouse at Glenturret, anywhere else nearby we should visit?

Also doing a shopping day in Glasgow, and one in Edinburgh. Whisky shop recommendations?
