This shows how difficult it is to get the right one (there's nearly 30!). They also seem to vary in quality so it makes it a big issue getting the very good ones and avoiding the poorer ones:

http://www.whisky.fr/kavalan-vinho-barrique.html a business in France is also showing the 57.7 version in blue label. Is this not the correct one?http://www.whiskybase.com/brand/81563?page=3&s...

As an aside I think some of the older versions are even more confusing as some of them have the same alcohol content despite being different casks released in different countries.
Heads up.
Aberlour 12 (note 12 not 10 year old) is only £26 at Sainsburys:-

Great deal for the 12 year old, if it floats your boat.

I'm far from a whiskey connoisseur but I do like to drink it (with ice, not neat). I have a friend heading to japan soon and he's willing to get me a reasonably nice whiskey. Can anyone suggest any? nothing too expensive, around the equivalent of maybe £30-40.
If they're buying duty free, tell them the budget and to buy either the Hibiki (as a blend) or Yamazaki closest to that budget. When I flew out of Narita, Suntory products were very decently priced compared to local prices. Suffice to stay, much better than here!sheepsplitter said:

I am a big fan of Aberlour, but I have never managed to try the 12. Is it a big improvement over the already very nice 10? Aberlour 12 (note 12 not 10 year old) is only £26 at Sainsburys:-

The 16 and A'Bundah are bloody lovely

The 12 is a lot nicer than the 10, but A'bunadh is in a different league IMHO.
Definitely a nice single malt, and well worth £26.
A'bunadh is my all time favourite sherried Single Malt.
I did see it on offer in Waitrose before XMAS at £35 a bottle, but it's not been near that since.
Pay day tomorrow so i might treat myself to a bottle of the 12, it was my new years eve drink! Only got a bottle of the 10 last week and savoring my A'bunadh!Definitely a nice single malt, and well worth £26.

I'm not an expert, but from what I have seen I don't think so. The one mentioned on the awards site is 58.6%, which would mean any with different alcohol contents the rest are from different cask runs.

""This is a single cask release - every new batch is barrel aged and during this process, the ABV % can vary, very slightly between batches, there are multiple ABVs which are shown on each bottle, but the award granted relates to the whole range of Kavalan Soloist, rather than one particular bottling They are released simultaneously rather than one by one"" Ive been informed. So if you can find a bottle, it doesn't matter which cask run or ABV as its the whole range that's won the award. Although in my view they are different whisky with different ABV so the one that was tasted to win the award may well taste different than the one I can get my hands on. Make its a farce really doesn't it.http://www.worldwhiskiesawards.com/kavalan-solist-...

I know taste and preference is subjective but I want to buy either the Ardbeg Uigeadail or Corryvreckan. Has anyone here tried both? Any tips on which to go for?
I've got an opened bottle of Uigeadail, and it's simply lovely. Strong mind you, needs a little water to bring the flavour out.I have a closed bottle of Corryvreckan, which will get opened for a special occasion (like the Uigeadail is empty ;-)).
The Uigeadail is slightly better value for money, and it's generally been rated higher than the Corryvreckan, but I'm guessing the Corryvreckan is a cracker as well.
Rest assured you can't go wrong choosing either of them.

I recently started tasting whisky and like the balvenie 12year varient. If I like this what else is worth trying? I did try a glenmorangie 12 year as well but didn't get on with it.

Try some other Speyside whisky - Aberlour, Glendronach, Glenfiddich are probably good places to start. Stu
