I know taste and preference is subjective but I want to buy either the Ardbeg Uigeadail or Corryvreckan. Has anyone here tried both? Any tips on which to go for?
Yep! They're both great. Corryvreckan is very firey. If you don't like it spicy I'd go with Uigeadail but tbh you can't really go wrong.

Thanks for that, I quite like it spicy. I may give the Corryvreckan a go first then. I'm getting through my A'bunadh and Talisker 10 far too quickly at the moment, I need an alternative. Although I do have a bottle of Lagavulin to open too, I was saving that for the birth of our second in July, maybe I'll crack it open sooner and save the Corryvreckan for that.

Lagavulin is stunning, probably my favourite whisky.

Interesting, thanks.

You have the first sentence in quotes - is this a response you've gleaned from asking someone else?
Yes sorry. That is correct, I Emailed my usual online retailer for Whisky and that was their response.

I am getting on very well with Jura Prophecy, it is a stunning dram. So much flavour comes out of it when you swill it round your mouth, or whatever the technical term for that is.

Dare I say it, better than Lagavulin?

It doesn't make much sense at all though, it's like giving an award to Glendronach Single Casks in general. And then is it the 2015 single cask releases, or 2014 as well, or further back than that? Plus going from reviews there does seem to be a variation in quality on the Kavalan, as you would expect with single casks (that or some people are just not a fan of the taste).

Just back from a local whisky auction, the local auctioneers normally send their alcohol away to Glasgow auctions when they're doing house clearances but decided to give it a go themselves. Decent enough turnout..

30 miniatures for £48, pretty happy with that. I'll go a bit more prepared next time!

Sainsbury's specials - had the choice between Aberlour 12 or Jura Superstition, went with the Jura as I don't currently have any smokey/peaty liquid. Due to be cracked open in just a few moments!

Heads up.
Aberlour 12 (note 12 not 10 year old) is only £26 at Sainsburys:-

Great deal for the 12 year old, if it floats your boat.

30 May - Ardbeg Day, 200th anniversary of both Ardbeg (and Laphroaig), although how you get hold of some is being withheld for now. I'd anticipate committee release first, and i'd be surprised if you can secure some via the Internet before it all goes. Infuriatingly, we were going to be there in Islay for Ardbeg Day and Feis Ile but Cally fking Mac don't run on Sundays so we can't get home when we need to!!

Have ended up sitting with two very different whiskies in front of me, both in terms of taste and price..

No 1, is a 10 year old DYC (Spanish) which was 15 euros in a Barcelona supermarket, and bought spur of the moment as it was no great loss if it wasn't any good. It is however very good, light but very drinkable.

No 2 is a 50 yr old North British single grain, which has a very intense almost cigar like flavour. Can I justify a full bottle??

Just shows some of the extremes you can find with whisky!!
