Sorry to say, but it's a "meh" from me.
Me too.

Trying to be too different to stand out in a busy market.
Excessive fresh wood - lets say its an English Malt Bourbon
I think that's pretty much the opinion I arrived at last night when I opened it - the finish especially is similar to walking into a workshop where they've bee cutting wood all day, just too much..

Shame. They either need to drop the price - or improve the whisky.

A more traditional cask would probably work well, as there are suggestions of a decent whisky before the wood kicks in but it's the choice of cask that's the problem.

Bottle of this delivered yesterday:

An unusual, but definitely not unpleasant, bourbon like taste that I can't quite decide what the predominant flavour is (possibly vanilla).

I have a bottle of number 2 at home. Its alright, I think its the price tag they put on these. Its way over priced for what it is.
A friend of mine gave me a dram a few weeks back, unsure which release it was. I took it for a relatively non descript blend, nearly fell over when I found out it was north of £40 a go!

Still, Rome was not built in a day,so hopefully they will turn out great malt in time.

Head's up....
Glenlivet Nadurra 16 year old Single Malt reduce from £47 to £40 in Waitrose.
The cheapest I can find it online is at the Whisky Exchange for £42.45 + postage. So this is quite a saving.

First release from the reopened Mars distillery is now available from TWE if anyone is interested. 3yo lightly peated so should be quite interesting.

On another note, the Limburg Whisky Fair is on the 25th and 26th of this month. Is anyone going to be around for it?

I bagged a couple of bottles of Nadurra yesterday and of course ended up opening one last night.
Very nice indeed, and certainly has a kick, maybe not in the same way as an Abunad'h, but certainly a very nice single malt indeed, and a total bargain for £40/bottle.

Did not even notice they were there, a part time hobby of mine :P

On a serious note, they are SWMBO books from her hair dressing course.

Nice collection, how do you rate the hibiki 17?

Hibiki 17 is a really good whisky. More of a bourbon taste than whisky but a lovely blend. The 21yo is even better.

I've yet to try the Hibiki 17. It's being kept for a special occasion. But if it is of a similar ilk to the 12 it'll be good.

Bowmore is lovely, and out of all the drams I tried at the weekend whisky festval, it was my favourite.

As well as a bottle of South African Bain's Cape Mountain, which will be he first whisky I've had from the Southern hemisphere.

Did you try Bowmore devils cask? It was lovely and interested to see if it's like the 15/18?
