It's a blend, which are generally considered "lesser" in the whisky world, but good blends can be very nice. However the main problem is that it looks to be opened and if you've had it that long it's likely to have gone a bit bad due to interaction with the air.

I'd taste it and see what you think first.

i've had it for years, tbh it definitely felt past it's best and not as potent as it once was, but still v nice. I've got a bourbon-shaped hole in the collection now. Possible Rock Hill Farms...
Have a bottle of Rock hill Farms in the stash , but not samples as yet. A treat in store when I do, by sound of things.

Best Bourbon I have tried so far, is Old Rip Van Winkle 10, not easy to find though. The older expressions even worse, sadly.

Not as yet - previous orders (e.g. Supernova) were four days between order and delivery but that was through MHSelections. This new order has come from a different site with MH not being mentioned anywhere.

I wonder if Ardbeg have managed to screw up the delivery side of this order as well. I can't currently login to my account to check.

Er... Glenfiddich means "Valley of the Deer" in Gaelic!

Kockando is OK, the Dalwhinnie is a touch smoky I seem to recall. Not had the GK 12.

Going to be heading through Gatwick at the end of this week and want to get a whisky for a friend. Current favourites are Bowmore Tempest (but none of the other Bowmores) and Kilchoman Machir Bay, she also likes Balvennie Triple Cask (12) and Jura Prophecy. Anyone have some suggestions? Maybe one of the Japanese whiskies?

Glenkinchie is unremarkable, not unpleasant, but I wouldn't bother

Tempest is a stonking dram. As for a Japanese whisky, my personal experience of such is low, but can recomend Nikka from the Barrel, it shouldn't really work, but it does, something tasty and different.

P/S A lot more women it seems getting into whisky, being as women tend to have on average superior senses of taste and smell than us blokes it comes as no surprise.

Just been having a look on the World of Whiskies website and not sure they have any Japanese whiskies anyway! frown

Going by Island/Islay, it seems I have a choice between Arbeg 10, Ardbeg Uigeadail, Bunnahabhain Cruach-Mhona, Laphroaig PX Cask.

I know the Uigeadail is supposed to be a very good dram, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone has sampled any of the above and how they compare to the Machir Bay or the Bowmore Tempest?

The Laphroaig PX is a very good dram.

Tempest is very different to the Ardbegs, I *assume* its very different to the Laphroaig (if its a Laphroiag similar to the 10 etc) and no idea regarding the Bunna. Had a look at the website myself, but only one dram stood out (to me at least) and thats the Talisker 57 North. Still not akin to Tempest, for sure, but a great dram all the same, and a whisky which seems to widely liked acrioss the board.

Its a pity they seem to concentrate of daft Dalmore's for thousands of £;'s instead of widening broad choice. Suppose it tells us those huge priced whiskies must sell well.

P/s if your friend likes Tempest, she may want to try Lagavulin 12 if she gets opportunity.

If you happen to see Armorik original edition there, I'd seriously consider picking up a bottle of that as well. I stumbled upon it in Carrefour in Calais for not much more that 30 Euros, which is a fair bit cheaper than you see it for here - and, its a very nice whisky as well.

They've just literally bought out a new special release for distillery on Monday.

Only 2500 bottles made, 'Macallan the archival series' - I think its NAS as well.

(Sold out before anyone starts getting excited).

That's what prompted the question actually. There was a 2000 / 500 split between distillery and online I believe.
