Tonight my dram of choice is Lagavulin 16 - and very nice it is too.

How strange, I was exactly the same. Didn't like it at all when I was younger.
Love the Talisker 10 as well.

It was this Malt which enrolled me onto my whisky bandwagon.

I could not beleive it when I had my first dram. Was truly astonished. Still my default whisky of choice.

Stablemate , the 12 year old and Talisker 18 are my two "treat" whiskies.

Visited a rather lovely double starred restaurant in Sant' Agata In Italy, near Sorrento, and on the tour of their huge 7th century cellar saw amongst the vast wine collection some rather interesting whisky examples

Wow, some impressive drams there.
Can you remember the name of the place?

Looks very interesting!

Will be flying to Barcelona this next week with work, any recommendations for good whiskies to get in duty free?

yea it was don alfonso

http://www.donalfonso.com

Check the cellar pics, the stairs just go down and down and end up with a spiral staircase down into a scary ancient well. The humidity of the water means it gets more humid as you go. They age cheese in the well walls.

i did get excited that it was the same Sant' Agata where Lambos are made, but that one is near Bologna... can't have everything i suppose!

None of this exactly whisky related, but had a great introduction to Amarone. My word that stuff is good.

Thanks for that. I am out there later this year with my wife for a holiday, so I might pop by for lunch and check it out.

Here's at least one whisky link from Amarone - this stuff is one of the best bottles I bought last year, Arran malt finished in an Amarone cask.

Here's a few of the current rotation. The BenRiach in particular is superb, huge sherry flavours - think A'Bunadh or GlenDronach 18 and then some.

Which release is the Tempest, what do you make of it?

I hope this doesn't violate the no promotion rule smile

The Hudson Whiskey boys and I made a documentary about the rise of craft distilling in America. The trailer is below, the full release (well at 15 minutes long its not exactly feature-length!) comes out in two weeks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ektC3v3JR00

Its been a lot of fun to do, travelling the USA interviewing the pioneering distillers, writers, bartender etc.

Looks interesting! The lead article in the last issue of Whisky magazine was on a similar topic, I must confess I know very little about it compared to the industry in Scotland but I think it would be fun learning more....

Batch 5. Huge amounts of oak and vanilla with everything else taking a back seat. For me it's missing something though, almost a bit one dimensional despite being cask strength. I had the standard release small batch bourbon cask last week too and for me the Tempest wasn't much different once a drop of water was added (though on reflection that's hardly surprising!!). Nice enough, but I won't be buying another bottle.

Thanks for the tip. Not been over for a while and I know Mitchell's have moved from the old home in Kildare street to the CBD.

The Redbreast 12 and 15s are a lovely dram too, pure pot still.
