Great post - interesting to see these more obscure distilleries.

Good to chat last week too.

Very interesting post Hoegaardenruls.

As above, it's nice to learn about the more off the beaten track distilleries that otherwise might not get any air time.

Thanks for posting.

New Ardbeg Supernova is now on sale for UK committee members. Just managed to bag 2 bottles and my GF has 2 as well! Just have to wait until Christmas now until I can try one frown

Yes, they will probably increase to £300 for the first few bottles that become available on auction. But then drop down to similar to retail price. (I don't know the details of the new bottle but this happens with pretty much all new special Ardbegs these days. So if you miss out don't overpay in the first auction.

To follow on from my earlier post when I was in Luxembourg, I thought I'd add spend some more time, add pictures, the odd link and a bit more on the road trip that took in a few distilleries, and several shops on the continent.

My collection at home already included several European whiskies such as Hammerhead, Mackmyra, Armorik and Slyrs among others, but I thought I would see if I could pick up a bottle of whisky from each country visited - some would prove easier than others..

So eight countries and nearly 2400 miles later, which included three distilleries, several good whisky shops, a farm shop, a couple of department stores and a supermarket in Calais, I came back through the tunnel with a haul of sixteen bottles from seven countries ...
Really interesting post, nice to hear about different distilleries, and nice with the pictures too! Thanks.

Really unusual Leapfrog here (with some kickass Stovies!)

It's from an ex-bourbon hoggie so has that intensely sweet oaky/vanilla/honey thing going on with the oily, seaweedy, peaty spirit. It's bloody good!

Well, ATM the final Supernova is a UK committee only release. If it were to stay that way then it will increase in value quickly and stay there but I'm sure it will be released to a larger market soonish.

I have to disagree slightly about the newer Ardbegs (original price in brackets).

Supernova 2014 is around the 250€ mark (110€)
Perpetuum Committee Release is around 400€ (85€)
Galileo is around 200€ but God knows why as it is one of the worst Ardbegs I have tried along with Ardbog (80€)
Kildalton 2014 is around 230€ (150€)

I have a few of these in my collection but a couple of bottles of each will be enjoyed and the rest, if needs be, will be sold in 20 odd years time. If I don't need the money, then I will be a very drunken old man hehe

Mr Trophy sent me this link - an interesting but slightly worrying tale about a fake at auction.

Worth a read - http://thecuttingspirit.com/2015/09/10/fake-macall...

You too. Mine's with a neighbour rather than being delivered on Monday when I'd be in. I've just got in so too late to pop round. I don't think he likes whisky...

It's interesting to note that the Laphroaig 21yo didn't sell out. So seems £99 for the 35cl bottle is too much. I think they might have got away with selling them all if it was 50cl, but not the 35cl at that price.

Will be sampling the GLT founders reserve this weekend.
I just these up from our local Waitrose at £23/bottle........ picked one up put it in the trolley, took 5 steps away and thought I'd be stupid not to buy two at that price smile

not sure if it's a national deal, or due to that fact our Waitrose is having some building work done and they are short on stock/floor space

Edited to say it is National just checked their online shop

I was also given a tip by the owner, for a very special bottle of Whisky Castle (apparently a private cask), only available via a brewpub on Lake Zurich.
Great write up. Thanks for that. Could you share the name of the brewpub please?
