This weekend thought I'd try Glenmorangie 'A midwinter nights dram'. I know nothing about whisky, but it's quite pleasant and I do prefer the 'softer' types to the 'drinking liquid fire' ones smile

Heads up chaps.

Aberlour A'bunadh Single Malt Whisky down from £41.50 to £33.50 at Waitrose (National Deal).
This excellent cask strength (59.6% or thereabouts) whisky is one of the best even at full price. This is an absolute bargain for single malt fans.

Seems like it's either Batch #51(60.8% ABV) or #52(60.5% ABV), if my local Waitrose is anything to go by.

Just got a #50 from my local Waitrose. Not building up a bad 'whisky wardrobe' of unopened bottles now.

Be interesting to compare this to the Glenfarclas 105.

Opened a Clynelish 14 Year Old. Must admit I hadn't heard of it when purchased but thought I would try something new... Not enough depth for me and the initial spicy hit followed by a mellow creaminess was a bit underpowering.

Bought a bottle of Glenlivet Founders Reserve last night, as it looked to be a bargain price.

Unfortunately, I agree with most of these reviews. frown

Maybe it will grow on me.

Thanks, you've saved me the cost of a bottle. I like their 15 year old very much, Sainsbury's had it down to £33 a bottle a while ago.

Anything that it's similar to that you have tasted?

Bowmore 18 for me tonight. Have to say I am enjoying it.

That's excellent (as are most Islay's with a bit of age). The older Laphraoig's are peaches, its just a bloody shame there isn't much about!

Quick question for you.

I have the following unopened bottles in my cupboard

Lagavulin 16
Lagavulin Distillers Edition
Aberlour A'Bunahd

And the following opened bottles

Glenfarclas 105
Bowmore Black Rock
Bunnahabhain 12

Just to give you an idea of my tastes.

I'm going to get one more bottle as a birthday present and cannot decide between the Glenfarclas 15 or Bowmore Darkest 15.

I know the Glenfarclas will be superb, but will the Bowmore Darkest be 'different' enough from what I've got to be worth buying instead?

If any of you have tried both of them then I'll be interested to see what you think.

Darkest is very nice, but personally I'd go for the Glefarclas.

Did you like the A'Bunadh, because if you did it's now up on Amazon @£30.96 a bottle and has Prime delivery, which is an awesome deal.

Have been lurking for ages, but only registered a few days back.

Curiously enough, I've only just finished off a bottle Bowmore 18. Have to agree, very flavoursome. Bowmore as a distillerry seem to have come on in leaps and bounds in the past few years, from my experience, the Tempest and 18 seem particularly good and offer superb vfm.

I have a bottle of Laimrig in my stash, anyone any experience of it?

You are not alone. Last year I found an old tasting book of ours from 1999 , in it under the Clynelish me and Mrs had writeen "not to our taste" . Prompted us to try again. Nothing had changed from our perspective , still underwhelmed . Each to our own.
