Nice collection. The Chaper 14, Yamazaki and The Ben Riach are the highlights for me.

I have just finished a Chapter 13 and my Lagavulin 16. Only a bottle of Rollercoaster, Dreifeltigkeit, Cellar Reserve and Blair Athol 18 to go and I can start with some other bottles!
Thanks, I always try to spot some of the less common bottles on my travels. The lagavulin became a distant memory today so will need a replacement!

Here's my group. Enjoying building the knowledge. Have just purchased the 20yr Madeira cask 1994 from Benriach's batch 11 as well the Pedro X from the same batch.

It's a problem I tell you.

Some nice whiskys there.

I've had a few drams of Glenfarclas 105 tonight and finished a bottle of Famous Grouse (actually not bad) so am feeling pretty chipper!

Two bottles of Johnnie Walker Black ordered to supplement the single malts!

If you're fond of whiskey you might also like cognac ?

Sainsbury's own brand taste the difference XO at £22 a 50cl bottle is really rather nice, very gentle with a lot of fruit. I've had various samples from MoM this year and only a couple were as nice or better, one at over £200/bottle so £22 for 50cl is great value.

Whisky Lounge Movember Fundraiser tonight - some good stuff, and several itchy faces. An Cnoc 16, Big Black Cock, Canadian Rye, A'Bunadh Batch 50, Bowmore 17, Loch Fyne 1745, and then some.

Never ever mention Ballantines Brasil - but as its only 35% its not whisky.

But finished with a Balblair 1978 - the Benriach 35 - and another dram of the Big Black Cock (because you are unlikely to get another chance of a Big Black Cock), or the Balblair or Benriach come to that. As per the picture.

BBC is from a craft Aussie distillery hence lack of UK availability. Whilst the Benriach had a good nose - the Balblair stood out.

Not to mention a SMWS 23yo Glen Scotia that emerged from the hip flask of one of the regular attendees.

Just picked up a bottle of Old Pulteney Navigator from Booths on a little trip to the lake district for £30.

I'm a big fan of the 'bog standard' OP and this is no disappointment lick

I wish we had Booths in the south. Fascinating place.

Talking of Booths, I spotted a load of Penderyn Legend in there the other day. Anyone tried it and have a view? I'm partial to the Madeira finish and made light work of a Port finish last year.

What was your thoughts on the Benriach 35?

Not the same league...but Dalmore 15 year is a lightning deal tonight at 7pm if anyone else is interested.

Normally £43 but assuming it will go to below £30.

Hi there,

Great price for one of my favourite Whisky's. I am in the trade and my cost price direct from the brand is a little bit less than the Amazon price of £95 thankfully. Means I always have a bottle in stock :-)

We've had three of these delivered today

http://thewhiskeywash.com/2015/10/08/glenfarclas-1...

Looking forward to opening one soon but not sure what a 58 year old Scotch will taste like.

Regards

Tim

Personally - whilst it was good - it didn't blow my mind. For the price you could get a few well chosen cheaper drams and greater satisfaction - if you were paying full price and not the rather special £5 I paid for the dram eek.
I would have liked to have another dram though - earlier in an evening after fewer other drams (although it was over a very leisurely 4 hours with food midway, so I was pretty 'sober')

The nose was full of older dried fruits and ripe fruits which was good. Early on the palate was the taste of old wood - quality old wood - but for me that seemed to overpower the fruits later on - or at least the fact it clung at the front of my mind. That's probably why its not something that would be at the top of my list on this occasion. Whilst wood is crucial to the end result this one just wasn't there for me - despite the quality showing through.

Thanks CM.

Myself and Podie have commented on it before with the thoughts that it was a goodie!

Just back from Argentina and Chile. I thought Norway was bad for whiskies, but dear goodness do NOT buy single malts in Argentina! It was something like £170 for Jura Superstition and so on!!! The cheapest single malts are around £35 in a bar for a glass! Blends (or at least certain ones) are a bit more normal though.

While I was there I visited the Museo del Whisky in Buenos Aires. They claim to have probably the second biggest collection of whiskies in the world. A lot of special release blends and older whiskies, not so much new stuff (probably due to those insane prices they have now). Here is part of the collection. Sadly the very first Argentinian single Malt which was released at the end of last year was sold out, and they were only getting in new stock a few weeks after I was there so didn't manage to try it. Asked them to email me so depending if they remember may order a bottle.

I picked up the 35cl 16yo Laphraoig in duty free on the way back. Had planned on getting Hibiki Harmony too, but it meant I was at 105cl and they only allow 100 so I had to drop it since there was a massive queue at the time. I had also ordered something more local when I was away; Eiktyrne which is a Norwegian whisky that is 4yo. It's matured for three years in a 1st fill Oloroso sherry butt, before receiving a 1 year finish in a Oloroso sherry blood tub (40 liter). Looking forward to trying it. Here is a link describing the earlier version of it.

Just had a dram of the £16 Johnnie Walker Black Label that was on offer at Amazon.

It's not bad at all for a blended whisky. Nowhere near a good single malt of course, but it's OK.

Although it's not whisky I picked up one of these today as it sounded interesting. English potato vodka!

Not tried the marmalade one, but the standard Chase vodka is smoooooth. Not really a vodka fan tbh as it doesn't taste of much, but the Chase was alright actually.

Had another quick line-up last night.

Still nothing too exciting compared to some on here, but I'm mostly still experimenting smile
